A little too realistic?
I can't be completely unsympathetic towards Velvet, even as much as I want to. What she went through was completely horrible.
But to, with no basis of information at all, claim that "I got better, she hasn't" is pretty out of line.
Also, never ever force someone to choose between people they love. One, you're very likely to be very disappointed in the choice they end up making. Two, that's a heck of a lot of pain to shove on someone you "love."

And not only have you chosen to declare yourself daughterless, if you're not careful, you may end up without a parent too (in the disowned sort of sense). And it will be your own fault, not Twilight's.

Maybe a little extreme in the case of Thanksgiving, but for the most part normal. It's not a perfect relationship which I'm loving. I can't truly express how much I enjoy your works; and I've read a LOT of works, so that means something.

Good start. Really happy these two are making a long run of it. That meeting with Velvet … yegads. I definitely couldn’t show my face at her doorstep if I had that kinda history.
Also, sounds like I shoulda read the Adagio story first, but anywhoodles.
That was … dunno if “predictable” is the right word, but something like it. Not gonna say Velvet was 100% in the right – the disowning threat felt out of left field; seems like she should be pissed at Cadance far more than at Twilight – but considering what Cadance last did to her (and Twilight, in her memory), and that she hasn’t known anything new about her since, I absolutely can’t blame her. In her position, seeing someone I consider a predator who abused my child (and myself) in my home, I’d start reaching for nearby sharp objects. So this was probably the best this could’ve gone, realistically.
I’m also guessing that Velvet hasn’t told Warrior exactly what Cadance did, especially the most fucked-up parts, or I don’t think even the kindly ol’ grampa would take too kindly about someone doing that to both his daughter and granddaughter, regardless of how long ago it was.
Really, I love that Cady worked hard to become a better person and redeem herself, especially in Twilight’s eyes, but what she did was seriously fucked up, and there’s no reason to expect Velvet to just get over it. It occurs to me it probably should have been up to Twilight to break the news of her and Cadance’s renewed relationship long before this – springing this encounter on both of them was pretty much the worst possible way to do it.
(As for Gleam, as far as I can tell she’s just all “you turned my granddaughter into a dirty gay with your lesbinems”, so to hay with her.)
Criminally underappreciated, this fic is. The writing quality and character development merit ten times the likes. Bah.

True. Though I’d maintain the balance of circumstances – Velvet’s chemical addiction and emotional state, Cadance being perfectly sober and lucid, Twilight's trusting naivete, etc. – makes Cady look quite a bit worse than Velvet does, at least in my mind. I’d imagine Velvet being Warrior’s daughter might make him side with her if he feels she was exploited, too.
Not to belabor the point or anything. I just think that even if the full truth came out, Velvet might be embarrassed for a while, but largely she’d come off as a victim, whereas Cady would be a clear perpetrator.
Whoops, didn’t realize that last comment would appear under this chapter rather than the last one. Oh well.
I’m curious about Adagio/Cadance/Twilight’s encounter; my guess is Adagio recognized them, but I don’t think Cadance or Twilight recognized her. I’m less surprised about the latter, given the state she was in, but I would’ve expected Cadance to show some recognition, or at least wonder whether she’s seen her before.
Also, without asking for spoilers, is Cadance’s “flu” here related to her ongoing tiredness from the beginning of the fic? I don’t imagine it’s pregnancy (symptoms don’t fit anyway), unless this world has some zany magic that’s yet to be revealed.
Finally, how close are the M6’s friendships at the moment? I like that Rarity’s back in the picture (I haven’t read the Adagio sidefic so I’ll find out what happened there later), but I wonder about AJ, Dash and Flutters.
