I love this pairing! I wish there was more.
This was great! I actually read it twice and had totally different reactions each time.
The first time I totally identified with Ocellus. She’s squirming with angst, all but snuggling with her crush, both cautious and eager to be discovered. When Smolder wraps her arm around her and tickles her, it felt like Smolder was totally oblivious, maybe being a little cruel, and I empathized with Ocellus’s frustration. Learning that Smolder was interested in her felt surprising, but pleasantly so.
The second time I started seeing things from Smolder’s point of view. She wanted to be in that bed with Ocellus, likely unaware that Ocellus also had feelings for her. When she realizes the attraction is mutual, she has that same caution and eagerness to be discovered, plus the extra obligation to see her family. However, she still can’t resist throwing her arms around her and a little tickle. The ending felt even sweeter this time, since they’d found a unique, and adorable, way to tell each other.
Also, the background Scrabble between Sandbar, Gallus, and Silverstream was fun. I wonder what their O&O game is like.
