Just caught up with this story. Not sure why you feel you've written yourself into a corner, even if we ignore the 'Sleeping Human' chapter - it's flowing pretty well so far. Though if you're writing each chapter without thinking about future chapters, that would explain the feeling. If you haven't done so, it might help to write down a really basic outline of the story first. That way, you can make sure the overall story is what you want and hopefully avoid those writing corners.
