The idea of Sunset and Twilight taking Celestia and Luna's roles has popped into my head once or twice interested to see how you handle it
A certain royal pain should really watch his mouth. If Celestia ever heard any of that, particularly the insult towards Sunset, he just might find himself getting disowned. (Surprised that hasn't happened before now).

After such a dark beginning and a scary middle, it was nice to end this chapter with Sunset and Sunshine looking to the future and wishing for longer periods of peaceful respites from defending the two worlds from evil.

The movie's been out for nearly six months. I'm not adhering to spoilers for arbitrary periods of time. There's been plenty of time to see it.
Kevin Spacey's character is Keyser Soze. Rosebud was a sled. Darth Vader == Anakin Skywalker. Bruce Willis' character was dead the whole time. The Planet of the Apes is actually a post apocalyptic Earth.

Sunset is quite the determinator and looks like Celestia and Luna are back to full strength which means Entropy is going be facing a very angry sun goddess for harming her students and niece

She has never been good with her magic being ripped away from her, such as with Acerak. Speaking of, I STILL CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY ENTROPY IS CALLING HER SEER. But still, wow. Sunset having enough determination to get back up after that. She has grown from her previous fights. It's still difficult piecing my thoughts together after that awesomeness in writing. Celestia cannot be a deus ex machina, she is merely a deus. Also, in looking at the deus ex machina, Celestia doesn't even fit that category, she is pretty influental to the overall plot. And Entropy is essentially a deus (god) himself. And, even then, as you said, the ritual is supposedly incomplete, meaning Tia isn't even up to her full strength. Well, unless Tia was made by a machine, then she would literally be a deus ex machina.

The difference is one is where the protagonists are saved by an outside force vs the powerful character possible of defeating them in one swoop is unavailable.

Another story, yes, but not one of mine. Used Sunset from SunLight Sliders, curated by Novel Idea. I participated in the sequel which will be coming out soon. We talked it over and decided to side reference it as a small touch.
I loved Sunlight Sliders! I've read the first couple chapters of the second one, but ultimately decided to wait for it to be published, as less waiting between chapters. But, looking at the thread, it may be nearing completion, so I might decide to continue, even if not done quite yet.
