Alternate Universe where Romans didnt practive slavery so i dont have to find a reason for romans to be opposed to slavery when in actual history they were big on slavery.)

hey bby

pro tip

don't do that

you can't remove an aspect of something and still keep the others while still claiming it's the same thing

it's like saying someone is using a Ruger Mini-14 but instead of firing bullets it fires lasers

then it's not a Ruger-Mini 14

it's a gun that fires lasers

Im just writing a story that involves magic, flying ponies, and inter-dimensional teleportation. I dont think historical fact is gonna be that big of an issue to enjoy the story.
But i understand what you mean, romans wouldn't be the same romans we know without slavery.

*sqqqeeee* insta like and follow!

8580915
Creative freedom?..... that is a thing as well.....

I liked the old version, now I like this version, CONTINUE

Yes no new army’s are coming. This will make this more enjoyable for me. Im a selfish pony and im ok with that before there was to many army cluttering up the scene.

Instead of having them hate the slavery, why not the racism of HUMAN slavery? Or the humans being treated as naught more than animals? The hate towards omni/carnivores? Not waging war the proper way? A city literally lined with gold? Expanding the empire (or founding a new one).

Honestly, it's the Romans. Just pick a Casus Belli.

Still, if you can work out the why of the conflict, be a neat thing to read. How the Legion overcomes magic would be interesting in and of itself.

On an unrelated note, do you ever wonder why the pegasi seemed to use iron pre-unification in their armor, but switched to gold/silver after?

8580935 creative freedom is a thing

it doesn't mean it makes your poor attempt at being a lazy creator any better

8580950

Eh i just thought it would be simpler to just have them come from a timeline where they didnt do slavery but most histroy was similar.

Also for that unrelated question i just think that the gold one is steel just painted gold and enchanted so they all look white. Probably for uniformity.

8580953
Look i just didnt think i needed to have an entire chapter explained as to why romans, who had a shitton of slaves, would care about slavery in this world. It just seems easier and simpler than finding some obscure reason that youd critizise me for later. Like if i said 'their humans were humans lets free them' youd probably say 'but romans had slaves'. So im here to tell you just think of it as an alternate universe Rome, like in this alternate universe equestria where slavery IS at thing.

i don't have a problem with the fact you are a lazy writer

im just pointing out you are one

Well, looking at it like this, I'm fairly certain that Roman slaves consisted generally of POWs or indebted former citizens that couldnt pay off their debts (Note: offspring is included as slavery usually does). So, slavery there and then is different from slavery as most think of it, at least in America. So in theory, they could see the enslavement of humanity as generally fair, given the POWs side. Fair, however doesn't mean they would or should give up. If I were a Roman Legionnarie I wouldn't the enslavement as an issue, but rather the enslavement of mankind.

Yes, the AU solution isnt the best way to handle it but I won't hold against you. So thats an alternative solution. Im gonna give you a like for your time, and I hope you continue writing this to gain a following. OH! And to learn and improve!

Thanks I do hope to improve my writing

*grabs my gladius and shield.. along with my trusty helmet* ok.. I AM READY!!

That last Human Revolution story was really good. I have very high hopes for the new story. I sincerely hope you won't stop with this story until there are at least 32 chapters. Either way I know it's gonna be a good one!!! :rainbowkiss:

A nice new beginning. Lets see how they will Eff up the ponies this time.

I could see the Romans as slavers and still fight for the human slaves, after all, what do you do with a drunken sailor when he's being beaten by ponies? you aid him. I could see them as seeing this as an opportunity, they had slaves course nothing else was smart enough to be worth the effort, if you add the other races then suddenly they no longer need HUMAN slaves.....

The excuse I would have gone with would be that the Romans could not accept apparent beasts of burden (ponies) enslaving humans, since the relationship is the other way around on Earth. However this might have other implications for the story that might not fit with what you want to do.

Y'know, I realize that the Roman Empire gets a lot of credit in most of the European-origin world, but I just want to point out that there was an equally powerful empire right next to it that actually opposed slavery while still doing lots of empire-level warring: the Persian Empire. Their state religion - Zoroastrianism - straight up forbids it.

Just strike me as a very easy fix, as opposed to retconning out an integral part of the real Rome's culture. A Rome that opposes slavery isn't Rome at all.

you know a roman empire that has no slaves means they don't fall of rome there slaves and enameys so they would probably last way longer

8581299
Yeah I thought of that but I know more (and care more) about Roman history and tactics.

8581358
It’s understandable, Rome also was strong about their allies or their fellow man if their part of the empire. There were even a few legions that didn’t use slaves but that was rumors though.

Should I read the other one first or what?

It was ok, but this is very different to the original so far, pretty nice actually, now I'll probably reread it, but you don't have to read the original to understand this story though I would suggest you read it to see how different it actually is.

8581081
*Roman General suddenly appears* You better be, legionnaire! For if you're not I'll shove mensa (a table) so far up you ass you'll be spitting out splinters for weeks, NOW CHARGE!

8582736
YES SIR! FOR ROME!! *charges*

8582834
save that for the newer chapters m8. The war has barely even begun.

8582884
gack! sorry sir! one chapter in and I am already hooked btw

THANK FUCK I thought it was dead but you were making a rewrite!

I liked the old one, but i also like the new one,
Keep it up.

Dis 1 butter *hic* sowry I'm dwrunk on rweding

8583068
Yep spudlord, I didn’t think it would get popular

Great rewrite!
Even if what is already said is true about Rome and slaves I still like it. I have just a few questions:
1. You write tents in a stone fort. The roman garisons at the rhine where early built into stone forts with barracks instead of tents, which where mostly used in temporarly built wooden forts, like a campaign.
2. What happens to the families of the soldiers. Or in general what happend to Vicus?
3. At which time and where exactly do you pull the XIV?

8585689
yeah orginally wrote wooden fort instead of stone but changed it and forgot about the tent part.

Also what?

Around every garison where a Legion was staioned there would soon be a Vicus (Vilage) were the wives, smiths etc. of the soilders lived. And to my other Question from which time are they 3rd century, 4th century AD?

8585878
I'm guessing since your being serious this time your gonna write most things about the Romans historically accurate (minus their like for slavery). And ate the Romans speaking Latin?

8586344
Im gonna mention it later in the story someone noticing their not speaking/writing latin.

8585904
just the fort was taken. and around the 3rd to 4th centruy AD. Where round shields were promenantly used by legionnaires instead of square as well as the spatha sword instead of gladius.

Alternate Universe where Romans didnt practive slavery so i dont have to find a reason for romans to be opposed to slavery when in actual history they were big on slavery.

I disliked the first version of the story when it deviated from history or how events did not make sense. (Japanese and Romas speaking the same language). Now you've done that before I have even read one word for this story. Alternate universe travels to alternate universe, what kind of story is that?

8589169
Look I didn’t want to have confusion as to why Romans are suddenly opposed to slavery in this story. Alternate universe for BOTH the worlds, earth and Equestria. Funny how nobody complains about Equestria being ok with slavery but not earth being not ok.

8589169
also to do with the japanese speaking roman speaking englihs thing. I used magic to teleport the armies there and your wondering why they can speak the same language? one word. MAGIC.

"Hmm very good work. We might have to send some men to check out the village, maybe ask the locals for a map of the area or directions to the nearest roman border if they are friendly and know where it is." Varian thinks to himself for a moment while looking over a list of the current forces he has at his disposal. "Have the 3rd legion prepare themselves to march off to this village. Cant be too careful and 5,500 legionnaires seems like plenty of soldiers to handle a small village. But in case have 200 cavalry go along with them. And tell the cavalry to map the area along the way, better maps equal better information. And information is better than any sword." Varian rants slowly looking towards the list of legions stationed in the base. Writing down the order on a piece of paper.

EXCUSE ME?!?
5,500 soldiers for just pretty much checking out a village?!?! That is very absurd you know:twilightoops:
Sure they are in unknown territory, but come on.... how big is this fort? If there is a legion with 5,500 men in it and some other legions and cavalry, the "fort" has to be massive... and they are going on a mission to get to know the village and it's surrounding areas. If i was a villager, i'd be extremely scared/intimidated. Around 2000-3000 soldiers seems more reasonable, but even then a small village would be very scared of a group that size.

I'm just saying this because i want to know the approximate amount of manpower and the size of the fort they have. If i could know this, then i could at least see some sense in the amount of soldiers that are being sent to "meet & greet the small village".
Would sending that many soldiers hinder the forts effective defenses due to having half of the soldiers leave it? Or would it still be strong because there's about 15 000 - 25 000 melee/ranged infantry + cavalry forces around 1000 men and their horses that were transported to Equestria?

8591132
Their romans. They arent exactly known for subtlety. Plus varian states

Cant be too careful and 5,500 legionnaires seems like plenty of soldiers to handle a small village.

. I might have gone overboard with the numbers but i felt like Romans wouldn't leave it up to chance that they wont get ambushed on the way.

8591144
true, but can you at least give me some numbers? like how big the fort is? how many people came with the fort? at least some vague numbers?

8591151
Do you want to know out right, or should i put it in the next chapter?

This is getting good dont Let the romans lose!
