Good to know that I'm not there only one that noticed the giraffe's all too intelligent eyes.
My headcanon is that giraffes are somewhat solitary and/or nomadic, and Isabella just kinda stuck with the whole vet thing after Fauna found her injured in her travels.
Or something similar, still working it out.
So I wasn't the only one to think it was weird that cows donkeys yaks and ponies are people but the giraffe isn't!
8149764 Guess what they use sheep as slaves! Considering that they talk in Applebuck Season and they are locked up! Donkeys are close enough to horses to be treated as such (but that won't stop pony's from insulting them) we hardly see the cows but it is assumed that they are in slavery too. Yak's have their own country. Giraffe's come from a far away land that they live in peace with the Zebra's coming to Equestria this particular giraffe decided to act as an animal instead of going through what the other race's are.
Also everypony hid from Zecora when she came to Ponyville!

8151920 Whoa dang, I just rewatched it and you're right. Pretty sure the show makers did not intend to make sheep a slave race. ^^; They are probably hoping no one remembers that part of that episode since the sheep never talk in any of the other episodes.

Hmm, should have noted that 'Isabella' obviously comes from the same lands as Zecora, and Fluttershy should know this too and mention the similarities between Isabella's encounter with fearful ponies and Zecora's similar initial circumstances.

This was sweet, and I really like the idea of her being more intelligent.
Isabelle seems to have a major case of wanderlust, and Fluttershy getting her to stay should be good for her.

I love the idea of Giraffes along with other hoofed animals being as intelligent as ponies. I was pretty bumped out seeing the Giraffe be like other “animals” in the show but this fic provides a possible explanation and I love it!
