"... okay, I have another plan!"

E

Detective Rarity has been called to New Jersey to solve a case around Captain's Cove Amusement Park when a missing carousel horse has become stolen and a bunch of weird things that have been going on. Luckily with the help of Pinkie, the two of them will work together to solve the case. They will go through danger, mystery... and fun?

Story is a parody and crossover of Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel.

Also a side note, the likes do more than adding it to favorites. For me, at least.

Props and a quick favorite to a fellow Nancy Drew/HER Interactive fan.

7371681 Oh I didn't know there was some Nancy Drew fans on this site. :pinkiehappy:

I'm a major Nancy Drew fan. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.

7371684

I first became acquainted with the phenomenon formally about ten years ago. I was a Hardy Boys fan growing up, but not enough of one to also check out Nancy Drew. A good friend let me have a bunch of games he had no use for, which he had gotten as a big lot in a garage sale, mostly old CD point-and-click games. Among those were a large collection of Nancy Drew games. I got so hooked on them that I bought from the company and, until moving messed up my ability to find things, had all the games from the first one, through... whichever one was before the Paris game.

Granted, for all my love of mysteries and puzzles I'm terrible at them, I have never been able to freehand my way through one. But they are great fun. The voice actress for Nancy makes her a fantastic charavter. She could totally be on MLP .

7371707 The one before the in Paris is Last Train To Blue Moon Canyon.

And I'd like to see the voice actress for Nancy to be on MLP. She's now retired from voicing Nancy Drew which is sad, but then again, she can't keep voicing her forever.

7371711

Well, it had to happen eventually. But I just like that somewhat husky, perpetually amused tone of hers.

7371720 Yeah me too. Well, we can only hope she'll do okay.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the fic. And do not worry, more will come.

My fave Nancy Drew game was Treasure in the Royal Tower. It's a great series.

7371746 My favorite one was Secret of Shadow Ranch, that was the very first game I ever laid my hands on.

7371750 The first one I played was Treasure, and I played Blackmoor Manor after, which is my second fave.

Bow, onto the story. It's fairly well written, but do me a favor and cut out the *insert actions here* things you're doing. It's kind of jarring and you're better than that. It works a lot better if you write out he action.

For example, you could cut out *yawn* and put something like 'Pinkie stretched out her hooves and let out a deep yawn'.

You pick up what I'm throwing down?

7371754 No I do. And that is something I'm working on, and hopefully I will do a lot better for the next chapter.

7374646 Well you just wait, I'm writing the next one right now.

7377253 Thank you. But this was an experimental chapter. And I'd like to ask an opinion, do you think it was good applying the same dialogue text as from the game to give it the feel from the original game, or not really?

7377256 I thought it was good. In fact, could you add in chapter where Rarity and Pinkie need some advice from Twilight 'Sherlock' Sparkle, please?

7377260 Like the phone call conversations?

7377261 YEAH!!!! Just like those phone conversations!!!

7377265 I'll see if I can apply the phone conversations with having the girls back at Canterlot High to be her phone buddies.

7377267 Thanks! And maybe could you even start a second story where Rarity and Rainbow Dash, along with Daring Do, solve a dangerous murder case?

7377273 I'll see about it when I get there. At the moment I've got a few other projects I've been trying to get done. Like the remake of the Elements Awaken which I have done in the past, and I've got a Lemon Zest X Vinyl Scratch fic I've been meaning to continue, and this one as well. But I'll consider it.

7377284 Well thank you darling. :raritywink:

Sadly, that's your opinion, not everyone else's.

7377287 Well, I'll be awaiting your next chapter!

okay, this confirms it, I need to start reading Nancy Drew.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't gotten a chapter out yet. Don't worry, I am working on another one. But a question to you guys, is there another mystery you'd like to see Detective Rarity tackle? Maybe another Nancy Drew game where she takes Nancy's position?

Squee! Two of my favorite franchises rolled into one! I'm excited to see what comes next!

Both were still stretched out over the bed like dogs taking up half of the plywood floor when they'd sleep.

I had to read this a few times before I realized they weren't actually lying on the floor. I'm not sure the analogy works and/or is necessary; I think you're trying to illuminate how they were sprawled chaotically over the bed, but there's better ways to say that.

I'm very curious what Pinkie's role in this is going to be, and what her treats do, if anything.

I'm excited for Rarity and hope that her first big case doesn't overwhelm her. Clicking the 'next' button now...

But a thought had crossed Rarity's mind. Why wouldn't Joy give her one of the fun cards?

"Why wouldn't Joy give me one of these?" Rarity asked with some worry.

This would be less redundant if you cut the second sentence from Rarity's musing.

Also, you haven't done much to reassure me in this chapter that this is going to be something other than "the exact plot stolen verbatim from somebody else, but with a slightly different main character."

I mean, except that Pinkie Pie is there. She is hilarious and adorable, especially her last line.

...

Wow, am I mean. Don't take this the wrong way, please; I'm still reading, I'm still having fun!

And the truth is, Paula offered me the park because she knew I needed the money

Honest question: Is that 'park' supposed to be job? I can't remember the game too well, but I didn't think Joy owned any of the park.

Any hope that any of these characters will get the Equestria Girls makeover? ...You know, weird skin and hair colors, and with a symbol somewhere that represents their theoretical cutie mark?

I'm imagining Pinkie Pie coming up with schemes to put smiles on everyone's faces; they sure could use help. That'll just be so sweet...

From the look alone, they could see a scary design of an angel fish sticking out of the wall, along with its light right in front of it.

I think it was an angler fish...

Why is Ingrid 'African-American' instead of zebra striped? Even if she was brown-colored, I wouldn't think that'd be worthy of note and/or an indication of race in the multicolored Equestria Girls world.

"Rarity, why are we doing all the work? Shouldn't she be doing the job she's paid to do while we do the job we're supposed to do?" Pinkie asked.

Oh, Pinkie, don't be silly. In the wonderful world of Nancy Drew, everything is the detective's job. :derpytongue2:

The phone conversation was hilarious and adorable all at once. This is quite an action-packed chapter and leaves me wanting more; I think you do better when you break away from the scripted character conversations and just write your own stuff.

7457042 Constructive Criticism is appreciated. I've been meaning to get someone to look over it, but I haven't gotten the time. And the first few chapters were experimental, I wanted to hear from audience feed before going in to make the net one. Do not worry, I will make some changes to it. And its not gonna be a complete carbon copy of the game itself.

And there will be a few jokes with Pinkie poking fun at the story like anyone would do at the Nancy Drew games. Like the bits where everyone's not doing their jobs, etc.

Anyways, if you're willing to give constructive criticism, is there any chance you can look at my Elements Awaken remake and give it your thoughts? I'm remaking an old fic to revise it and to make set in a way that the story flows a little better.

Oh, so is Joy's 'cutie mark' a sundae? That's sweet/ironic.

7459307 thought that would tie in for later.

"Better not press that button."

Dang it! I wanted to watch Pinkie get skewered successfully squirm out of the way in time.
Actually, when I played the game, I didn't even know it was possible to die there. I just picked up the remote and left, annoyed that the danger signs were meaningless.

"Hm... I'm gonna need something to reach that."

Can't wait to see Pinkie make a killing on the arcade games.

He also had a little button pin near the top of his shirt that had a graphic of a paint can embezzled with a crossbones sign on it.

So, a cutie mark in making hazmat signs. Good to know. [/sarc]
Not all cutie marks have to be pins, though. I was expecting his to just be a symbol on his shirt... perhaps such that Rarity can't tell what's his shirt and what's part of his cutie mark. Ha ha, they probably don't notice or care about those symbols... (would be cool if they did though, if only so the Equestria Girls world can, in some small way, have more in common with Equestria than regular Earth does. Besides the colors anyway.)
Really cool cutie mark idea.

"Do I take it you spoke to Joy already?" Rarity asked

Don't need the 'do' really...

"Yes, I did. And you can imagine my surprise when she told me you and that other friend were detectives." Elliott replied.'

"when she told me you and that other friend were detectives" would flow better if it was more like "when she told me that you and (different way to describe Pinkie) were detectives." And you don't need that single quote after the sentence.

But I certainly hope you suggest that I arrange for the park to be shut down by manufacturing this curse thing because that would be ridiculous.

He's... hoping that she'll suggest that? Because that would be ridiculous? Does he want to laugh at her?

She picked up and discovered on the receipt was for a major amount of wood.

"Hm... That's a lot of wood."

First, that first sentence is really rocky. Second, not only is Rarity restating the obvious, but why would she whisper clues to herself out loud right next to the suspect it's referring to?

After finding everything she could get

No, no, loot some more! Your job is to steal everything you can, Nancy Dr- I mean Rarity!

Thanks so much for continuing this story! I'm sorry high school is making it harder to write, but when you have more, I'll be here!

...Sweet Celestia, this is an extremely long review...

7558985 I do appreciate looking over it, and giving it the constructive criticisms. And yeah, high school's really kicking me here. Oh Sweet Celestia, so many assignments to keep track of... :raritycry:

But I do hope I can get more good content out for you and everyone else.

She could see a giant bookcase, a lathe, a fan with pieces of tissue strips attached to it, and so many other items like carpenter supplies.

:twilightoops: The fan. :twilightoops:

7567963 It's a reference to Five Nights At Freddy's, in every game there is a fan with bits of tissue paper tied to it, for some reason its become an internet icon.

7567982 Oh okay. Sorry I didn't understand the reference.

7567994 It's all right it's a really obscure reference anyway.

7567961
That's what the untreated solid waste hits later. :pinkiegasp:

I highly recommended it, but actually this particular story is one of many Nancy Drew computer games HerInteractive made. You can buy them off Steam (except for the first one, it was replaced with a remake), or if you're not into computer games then you can just watch the walkthroughs on YouTube.
