What happens when you die?

Alpine Wind is lost in the unforgiving frozen tundra, hours away from civilization. His body is freezing and his strength depleted. Survival at this point seems like a futile hope.

I'm gonna put this on my "read it."

Pinkie is much more mature and wise than she usually lets on. It's downright strange to see wisdom coming from her, but never surprising.

He can fight the cold, but he can't beat it. I'm a lifelong Alaskan, and although I haven't been that close to a cold death, I DO know what it feels like to be out there. Alone, far away. Nothing but the endless landscape. Oh, the trees will come and go. There will be rocks here and there. Maybe, if you're super lucky, a tiny stream. But there are no other people. No houses, no lights, no cars. Nothing. It's very isolating. (Although it feels nice when you're overwhelmed by the world)

I'm a little curious as to why Pinkie was the specter of his death. The angel to help him let go. She's the very embodiment of life and happiness, death is a concept completely... Not her. Alien, foreign, it doesn't feel right. I'm not saying you were wrong to choose Pinkie though. I've read other fics where she is the last close friend of a dying pony. Then again, those stories were always about her first brush with death, and how she dealt with it, accepted it, and kept making ponies smile. This feels like she's done it, many many times before. It fits, but it still doesn't feel right. Maybe it's because we can't really associate ourselves with Pinkie's mature side that easily. I don't know. I don't think anypony really gets her.

I loved the story, and the open endedness of it. That's really as close as anyone living can know about death. No one knows what will or has happened to Alpine once he passes. But... I guess Pinkie has a good a guess as anyone. He's free from life's struggles. It means giving up all that comes with it, but it's going to happen, one way or another. We all just hope we're prepared when the day finally comes.

Good story. It really made me think. And feel somber. Not sad, but somber.

(Pro tip: this ever happens in real life, stay put. Try to stay warm. Don't try to find your own way out. Wait for help. It's the only chance you've got.)

This was amazing. Also a little terrifying in regards to the part where he's dying, so this will be going on both my sad and horror bookshelves.

Time to read some silly ponyfics!

What happens when you die?

:rainbowderp:

...I personally hold a theory that we're all reincarnated as aliens.

no words, just a like:fluttershysad:

............why, just why, why in the feels!? WHY!?

6674962 That seems a bit optimistic, but to each their own.

I wrote a story of the same title as this one some time ago, and today stumbled across this quite by chance. I decided to read it out of curiosity... It did not disappoint.

Dang those ninjas with onions! *sniff*

It’s a toasty seventy degrees Fahrenheit here in my room, and yet I can feel myself lost in that frozen wilderness. Everything, from the bitter cold and Alpine coming to terms with dying was felt here.

Excellent story.

It's a Riverbank summer, and my bedroom is an oven. Yet, laying here, reading this, all I feel is the Northern cold, and the sad relief of the last breath of the suffering.

Holy moly, this was heart wrenching...
