You know, guessing this might be how it goes doesn't change how satisfying it is.
So close Twilight but as Captain Ginyu once said "You should never kid a kidder" and Celestia knew about that spell.
Prepare for shitsorm.
6234269 I friggin knew it.
Rarity is still capable of appreciating a fine male specimen.
Why can I see her ask Twilight whether they can visit a certain Prince Blueblood for some... attitude adjustment?
Huzzah!
So
Goddamn
Intense
I AM SO CONFUSED RIGHT NOW
well.... this will just took an interesting turn.... lets see what Celestia will do to Twilight now^^ By the way, wasnt there a spell on those muffs that only the pony who put them on could take them off again?
6235579 After Twilight thought she had won, she had taken the earmuffs off herself.
FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
This is one of the most tense passages of fiction I ever read. Ever. And I've read some good stuff.
Absolutely amazing. This fic has been amazing and sexy the whole time but now I can only think about what the fuck is going to happen to twilight and how long Celestia has had her focused. This was amazing.

I... wha... hah...
I was literally balling my fists while reading this. The tension and anticipation is just incredible.
You totally got me with the surprise twist, too. It didn't seem unreasonable to me that Twilight could win so easily. She really does freak out like that, even in front of Celestia, so in that respect she was safe.
DAMN! I was so CLOSE to having called this coming, but then I went and GOT THE DAMN WORDS IN THE WRONG DAMN ORDER!! AND THERE'S ONLY TWO OF THEM TO BEGIN WITH!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!
(Nah, I'm just jokin'. This is some top shelf shit, man, good show.)
I knew it wouldn't work, and was completely caught by surprise when it did. And then...
*falls to his knees, hands held together* Thank you! Thank you so much!
THANK YOU FOR NOT HAVING STUPID GUARDS!!!
For the whole time since hearing Luna talk about messing with the guard schedule I was scared that this would show the guards to be incompetent. As a member of the military I know that when you are charged with guarding something, you take it seriously. That makes it impossible to have something suddenly left unguarded without being really suspicious. Pure Heart, thankfully, reacted as any good guard should, refusing to leave his post without proper relief.
I mean, seriously, what the fuck did Luna and Twilight think was going to happen?! "Hunh, my replacement is late. Oh well! My shift's over so I'm leaving." (Much sarcasm)
So thank you, Wintermist. If the vault really had been unguarded that would have been a slight insult to people like me, even though I'd know you didn't mean it like that. Just... Thank you.
Ahem! So... Other first thoughts when reading this chapter....
"Celestia was faking! I knew it! I worried this might happen ever since Twilight started thinking about fighting her! I knew it...!"
"...Ahhhhh crrrraaaap! Twilight just lost?..."
Son of a--
I'm not in a fetal position! YOU ARE!
Well...
I'm with her.
Ah crap.
Yep. You're fucked.
She's right.
That, was way too close.
Yep.
Never have those two words seemed more menacing.
dat pun

Egh... my hopes just died alltogether...
Bleh, whatever, guess I wouldn't have half the fic ahead of me, if not for this
Huh. Up until this point I was convinced that Celestia had cast the charm on Twilight long ago, and only needed to say the word to awaken her.
Damn shame. I'm done. Decent whilst It lasted, I guess.
I'[m guessing that Princess Celestia already had this counterstroke in place well before Twilight ever found the book, After all, who better to assess if a unicorn was capable of making use of the spell than the mage who originally wrote it? Twilight wouldn't be able to come up with a defense against something that had already happened, after all.
Wow. I'm surprised at how many readers are saying this is the point at which they leave. I was waiting for this. It took longer than I had hoped, but it's so incredibly important to the story I hoped would be told.
And here it is.
Thank you so much. I've got the popcorn ready and this is going to get interesting. Very interesting.
A little piece of me died when i read this....
Best...cliffhanger...ever. You've out done yourself this time.

This. This sums it up nicely. Notice that Twilight starts with realizing that both of them are not paying attention to what Luna wants. This reminds me of Vir Cotto complaining about how Mulari wants this, someone else wants that, and no one asks what he wants, and he doesn't even know what he wants. (Other than to see someone's head on a stake as a reminder that somethings come with too high of a pricetag. Hmm, maybe Twilight should watch B5?)
By the end of this segment, Twilight is admitting to being selfish, and not concerned with what others want. And still goes ahead with it.
Oh, Twilight, Twilight. If you had talked to Celestia. Heck, you could have talked to her earlier when you first noticed the problem. Heck, all you had to do was admit to having a problem when you realized that was an option right here.
And, Celestia has a trivial counter-spell; the mind control spell washes right off her.
At least Twilight spilled the beans when she thought it was safe. Made sure to admit that she didn't really want to do this, and only did it out of fear of loss.
Power Corrupts. The fear of loss of absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Have you ever watch Code Geass? Season one has the least likeable "hero" I've ever seen -- you could call him less of a bad guy than the other bad guys. At least he admits to doing horrible things for a noble end.
Season one ends with an upset just like this one. And ... we are now *less than half way through*.
This is just like Code Geass as far as pacing goes. Well done.
