Friendship is weakness, that was what Sunset had believed. That is, until it forced her into a giant hole in the ground. Faced with the challenge of earning the forgiveness of her school, friendship is starting to not seem all that bad.

But friendship with them? Never in a million years. Unfortunately, they won't take no for an answer. But she has her second chance, and she plans to make use of it. However that may be easier said then done, especially when she questions their sincerity.

It had to be them...

After the Fall Formal, Sunset Shimmer's reign over the school had come to a shattering end.

Everyone at school no longer feared the cruel girl, and some chose to torment her at every opportunity.

Even the Rainbooms, despite the orders given to them by the Princess of Friendship, were reluctant to befriend the former bully.

While delivering her goods one early morning, Applejack encounters Sunset doing her community service. Despite her own anger toward the former Queen Bee, Applejack can't help but notice the complete shift in Sunset's demeanor: her pride and arrogance have been replaced by sorrow and shame.

Driven by her own curiosity, paranoia, her promise to the Princess of Friendship, and a small desire to extend an olive branch, Applejack approaches Sunset during her community service, asking her why she's acting so broken up. Sunset tells her that she went through the most painful thing imaginable: being forced to see oneself with objective clarity.

Will Applejack befriend Sunset, or will her anger toward Sunset overwhelm her compassion?

This fanfic is my own take about how the Elements of Harmony work, and why they managed to change Sunset so quickly. This is partly inspired by Fallowsthorn's Time.

This is the beginning of a series I call Sunset's Steps. I wanted to explore Sunset's redemption a bit, and use the series to see how she got to where she was by Rainbow Rocks.

Here are the rest of the stories, in chronological order.

Look In The Mirror To Find the Truth-Completed.

Live By The Sword...-Completed.

Working Girl Sunny-Ongoing.

The Downfall of Sunset Shimmer: An Anon-A-Miss Story-Ongoing

What Happened to Sunset's Family?-Ongoing

Companion story to Asriel Dreemurr, Prince of the Night, Takes place roughly two to three years before the first Equestria Girls movie, but is also loosely taking place at the same time as the events in the companion story due to weird temporal stuff.

Rated Teen for now, may be upgraded to mature further down the line when characters get a bit older.

Genderqueer Frisk, leans feminine, born male, they/them/their. If ya see an instance I mess this up with, please let me know~

Twilight and Sunset have been dating for months and practically live together already. Which makes it increasingly awkward that Twilight's family doesn't even know she is in a relationship yet.
Something that is quickly and easily resolved and clearly no grounds for panic.

Sunset and Twilight had been friends for months and even visited Equestria together earlier in the year. They just hadn’t gone on an official date as just them. Which is understandable, given the whole acclimation phase and the fact that it’s jusr so much fun hanging out with their friends.

But with the Fall Formal coming up, Sunset figures it’ll be the perfect chance.

Continuity: Homecoming

Warning: this was inspired in part by Walk the Moon’s song “Shut Up and Dance” and Amber Spark getting it stuck in my head. I bear no responsibility if it gets stuck in yours.

Did anyone ever wonder 'why those five girls out of all the teens in the school? Until that week, they'd not been much different than any of their peers. Or was it that no one else ever looked close enough to see them for what they could be?

...Perhaps that was it...

Perhaps, before the night of that fateful dance, no one had really seen any of the girls for who they were...and more importantly, who they could become.

But on that night, when everything Changed, Something saw deeper, saw the truth of each of them, and found within their souls the seeds of what could be.

Takes place in the same universe as Cross the Rubicon and the rest of my stories. You don't really have to read all of those to read this, but it does help...and hey, if you're new, and you like this, then feel free to check out the others! This gem is a project collaboration with one of my creative team, the wonderful woman who is my editor, beta-reader, co-author, and so much more. She's totally responsible for Chapter One, and we wrote the prologue together.
