With the Humans of Ebott City effectively rejecting the Monsters of the Underground, Frisk and Toriel have been working with King Asgore to try and find someplace that will accept the Monsters so they can leave the Underground and the camps outside Ebott.
As it turns out, a city to the north of Ebott called Canterlot is experiencing a major construction boom, and the Mayor of the City is wanting to bring in lots of new folks to boost the city's growth. Hearing of the Monster's Plight, she offers to help them come settle in the friendly and welcoming city.
With other options not panning out, the King and Queen take Frisk and head off to the City as part of the first group of Monsters hoping to build a new life on the surface. Frisk in the meantime is looking forward to all the new friends they can make, especially when they start attending their new school once summer comes to an end... Canterlot High.

Companion story to Asriel Dreemurr, Prince of the Night, Takes place roughly two to three years before the first Equestria Girls movie, but is also loosely taking place at the same time as the events in the companion story due to weird temporal stuff.
Rated Teen for now, may be upgraded to mature further down the line when characters get a bit older.

Okay so now I have finished my project.... still no sleep...
You would think after so many years after the humans sealed Monster-Kind under Mt.Ebott that there would be NO WAY the humans in the Settlement surrounding Ebott would keep hating monster.
Like there was not already an example of Humans reacting to a situation regarding Humans and Monsters already in the Undertake Universe.
So as I remember the credits to UT, I do recall that while there are Monster living on the surface; there were no humans with the monsters.
The bias, fear, and xenophobia would not go away no matter how presentable the monsters would be; especially if we recall when Asriel escaped the Underground with Chara's corpse and got savaged by rightfully worried humans.
In this story it makes too much sense that Humans would worry about Monsters killing children, and I love that in Chapter one 'Older children, Adults, and Law Officials would separate the children and monster children'.
I kind of want to talk about more, but I think I am tapped for the night.

Just wanna say its really nice to see some more undertalexmlp stuff from you. I've always felt the two series are a lot more compatible than many things people tend to crossover mlp with and seeing someone other than me care enough to give it a try currently is just great.
I think it's because both series focus on the topic of love and friendship is why these franchises are compatible isn't it as I think any show that focuses or bonds conquer all fit as a crossover with mlp like naruto and it explains why some crossovers work and some don't.

Something to admittedly keep in mind is that this Sunset Shimmer will be at least little bit different than the canon one. Mostly in part because to an extent I have found I have trouble writing bullies and at least the Sunset we meet in the first movie is very much one.
That said, even if this Sunset Shimmer was exactly the same... she's now already surrounded by people who can give her a different influences so that'll on its own change things a bit. So things would likely turn out differently anyways.

I think Sunset's "bully" personality being something she hasn't developed yet (and depending on how this fic plays out won't develop at all) both makes a lot of sense and from what I remember of Equestria Girls might even be supported by canon, though it's been a while since I watched it so I can't be sure.
I'm really vibing with your take on Frisk, it's interesting to see them interact with someone like Sunset who in some ways is entirely at odds with their personality and meet the situation with... well, determination without being overly childish about it.
Ooh, I like the idea of Sunset getting journal entries where she (and you) can expand on her thoughts and mental state in more detail! I'm definitely going to be following this fic :D
