The real Nightmare Moon has returned during Nightmare Night, and she plans to get revenge on Twilight Sparkle. However, she hasn't been aware of any events past her demise. Or the secret feelings a certain mare has that she's hated for over two years.

History records that Nightmare Moon was sealed away inside the moon, but there are some who tell the story differently. They claim that she was banished not into it, but onto its surface.

If that's the case, what did she do on the moon? How did she keep herself entertained? How did the stars aid in her escape? And when the answers to those questions are revealed, can she ever live them down?

And when they get back to Hogwarts, they'll have to deal with giant snakes, idiotic teachers, and a gathering darkness. With things going off the rails, they've got a long year ahead of them.

And if they survive that, they still got to deal with the strange power surges and dreams that both Luna and Nim have been having since soon after the Summer Solstice...

This story is a sequel to Left Behind

After defeating the Broken Pony, Nightmare Moon is finally free to begin her plans to retake Equestria and restore it to its former glory. However, she is haunted by the ill portents she had been given and searches for signs of her sisters' fragments or the coming of any new alicorns.

On top of this, the king impedes the alicorn's work at every turn and tries to be rid of her just as frequently. So many things happening all at once and spiraling towards the doom the 'leftover tool' warned her about, but Nightmare Moon is determined. No creature will stop her goal, not even the dregs of Equestria's destroyers from so long ago.

Starswirl the Bearded developed a time-travel spell. A pony could use it - but only once, and only be in the past for about a minute.

One chance. One minute. That's all Princess Celestia has to save her sister from the Nightmare.

Have you ever been really frustrated when you're trying to take something super seriously, but nobody else seems to care? That's pretty much what Nightmare Moon has to deal with when Twilight and friends don't really feel like fighting her and just ask her how she's doing.
