After the events of the Fall Formal, Celestia and Luna have dozens of questions for Sunset. Where's she from and where she lives are just a few that Sunset should have prepared for. And the annoying part of having Rainbow Dash following her around like a lost puppy.

During the ending of the Fall Formal, Rainbow and the others debate how to handle their promise to Princess Twilight to look out of Sunset with Rainbow opting to make the first move on their behalf.

Rainbow Dash knows her parents are proud of her. She also knows they take it way too far way too often; it's why she doesn't like to visit.
So when she shows up with the mother of all announcements to make, she's prepared for the mother of all freakouts. She's planned for it.

What she hasn't planned for is what comes after all that.

Rainbow Dash's late afternoon errand run is almost spoiled by a particular orange filly who finds her mentor and idol to be the perfect sleeping spot after a long day.

Sure, Dash could put her to bed, but why waste an opportunity for some quality time?

Now if only her friends would stop noticing what she's doing.

When a conversation with her school principal turns towards the topic of families, parallel universes, and the coincidences surrounding both, Sunset Shimmer lets slip a little bit too much personal information. This in turn leads her to learn that Celestia's got quite a temper when it comes to her well-being.

And also Celestia's got a really mean left hook.

You know how the story goes: A deranged cult kidnaps Twilight Sparkle, intent on using her to resurrect Nightmare Moon and bringing about an empire of Eternal Glorious Night. Thanks to the timely intervention of Celestia, the cult is thwarted, their ritual fails, and a small alicorn foal finds herself experiencing the big wide world of Equestria.

But what if things went a bit... differently? What if the Princess of the Sun's triumphant rescue was just a tiny bit sooner, the spell just a little bit more unfinished?

Now, Twilight Sparkle finds herself learning all the things she didn't know about alicorn foalcare (which is everything), Princess Luna finds herself in a battle of wits against a conspiracy that worships her worst impulses (which is just embarrassing), and Princess Celestia finds herself facing her oldest demons (of which there are many).

This fic is based off Past Sins, and follows the prologue of that story before deviating significantly. Nyx belongs to Pen Stroke, of course.

Twilight isn’t like other girls. She has dreams, real tangible dreams, that don’t involve getting a boyfriend with an IQ count as big as his clean sock drawer. But when she meets a mysterious girl during a school event, those dreams importance get questioned.

Twilight Sparkle has discovered her new friend is a pony from another dimension.

She refuses to leave this stone unturned, and will get to the bottom of this through extensive research, whether Sunset Shimmer knows it or not. Midnight Sparkle, of course, has her two scents about this entire nonsense.

Still-- A magical pony from another dimension walks beside her. This requires further study.

Twilight Sparkle is a scientist first and foremost. If it exists it can be explained using science and math, she knows it.

Magic will have to drag her kicking and screaming into believing in it. A promise it is willing to keep.

After the Fall Formal, everything was supposed to go back to normal, even turn out better. Sunset was going to have friends and they were going to teach her the ways of friendship. At least, that's what Twilight said would happen. Instead, Sunset is seen as a pariah by everyone including those who said they would be her friends. All except Fluttershy, who now has to save Sunset from ending up in a worse place than ever. But can she do it?
