On the last day of school before summer vacation, Cheerilee informs her students that she's going to pursue her doctorate in Fillydelphia, and won't be returning as their teacher in the fall. Her friends and students alike spend her last night in Ponyville bidding farewell and showing their appreciation for her, each in their own unique way.

But one student, in particular, has a hard time coping.

Princess Celestia and given her one basic drive: to satisfy everybody's values through friendship and ponies. Princess Celestia will satisfy your values through friendship and ponies, and it will be completely consensual.

Backed into a corner by her own political maneuvering, Princess Luna is forced to try and find a way to take a day off... from being a princess. The only problem is, being a princess is more something that you are than something that you do. And Luna was never all that good at taking time off from work to begin with.(1)

But with the aid of her sister, her secretary, and a hoofful of friends, she's got to try, for the good of the realm.

When Princess Celestia comes down with a mysterious illness despite her immortality, her loved ones flock to her side, including Sunset Shimmer. With only so much time left, Sunset takes it upon herself and Twilight to get to the bottom of it. The two of them work together non-stop to find a cure, which would be fine, if Sunset had gotten around to telling any of them she's dating the other world's Twilight.

To better herself, Luna has studied Twilight's actions and friendship reports almost religiously. However, she never expected to find the tables turned and be under the microscope herself, nor did she realize that a pony would go so far for one they called friend.

This is a prequel to Lyra’s Journey, although you don’t need to read that story to enjoy this one. It largely expands on what little canon we’ve seen for these two characters.

For those who are perusing this story based on the tags: Note that the first three chapters are more accurately categorized as Drama and then Adventure. However, the last seven chapters are Romance/Slice of Life, which is why the story has been labeled as such.
