Applejack and Sunset Shimmer have been spending a lot of time together recently, so why do they suddenly seem so distant? And why does Sunset seem to have abandoned her new-found friends?

Set between the events of Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks, this story may contain mild contradictions with Rainbow Rocks, but probably not enough to warrant an alternative universe tag. Although the story is marked complete, I'm not ruling out further chapters being added in the future, if I think of a way to continue it.

This story is a sequel to Sunset Rekindled

Set a month after Sunset Rekindled, Sunset Shimmer and her friends are finally returning to Equestria after an extended leave of absence overseas in Saddle Arabia.

It is a period of unrest and turmoil in Equestria in the wake of the defeat of King Nelphyn and Tirek alike.

Talk of civil war is brewing between the royal-controlled settlements of Equestria, and those under the perpetual vigilance of the Neo-Templars.

A strange anomaly lurks among the waves that endlessly crash among its shores, pulling ships under to their demise. Inspiring fear, hostility, and paranoia, the origins of these attacks are unknown, and both of the major Equestrian factions have exchanged the blame with one another, and a threat of all-out retaliation is in the air.

Meanwhile, the ancient god of evil that is Saegmuntitus has yet to unfold his ultimate plan unto the world, but promises will be kept and even the Alicorns alone will not be able to avert this when the time comes.

To face these dilemmas, the power of friendship will have to spread like never before, as Sunset Shimmer and her friends venture forth into an odyssey of epic proportions to the far corners of Equestria...and beyond.

After putting on the Element of Magic, Sunset Shimmer was shown just how much of a monster she really is. But that wasn't all the Elements did to her.

Sunset has now been forced to serve penance by answering any question truthfully and by doing anything asked of her, whether she wants to or not.

And she really doesn't want to.

Until all of the hatred in her heart is gone, Sunset is at the whim of her peers, unbeknownst to them of course. Can her new "friends" help her down the road to redemption?

If not, there's always that other Twilight Sparkle she keeps running into.

Sunset has been through a lot lately. She thought that making amends for her past mistakes and defeating the Dazzlings were already difficult enough, but then it appears that two of her friends wants something more. And this is the point when things get actually difficult.

Bored one night, Sunset Shimmer orders a pizza and invites Flash over to watch a movie. Flash recounts a story from his less-proud years as they wait for their food, but it seems to be taking a long time for their pizza to arrive.

After a mishap with a senile, half-blind janitor mistaking her clothes for a wad of towels, Sunset Shimmer has to find a way to get home without being seen. Unfortunately, her plans don't exactly work out the way she'd hoped...

I've seen a lot of these types of fics as of late, and I broke down and joined the bandwagon. Honestly, even in the first movie, I've always liked Sunset Shimmer's character, and the second movie just made me like her character more, so I kinda wanted to do a Shimmer Fic anyway. I'm not really intending for this to be edgy, but honestly, some of life's funniest moments can come from a rather awkward situation... Hopefully I can make you laugh at least once.

It had seemed like a good idea at the time, until Sunset actually read what Twilight wrote in her letter. She'd already said yes to seeing Celestia again, and she wouldn't go back on her word. As long as she remained convinced that this was a good idea and that it would all end well, she could get through it without a problem.

It's been a few weeks since Twilight returned to Equestria. All seems to go well until Sunset senses something wrong with the student body. To make matters worse, Human Twilight has started snooping around the school for proof of magic. With Princess Twilight unable to come to Sunset and the humane five's aid, it's up to the bacon haired teen to set things right and to prove herself worthy of her element.

While lounging around Twilight's castle and airing some friendship-related grievances, Discord stumbles across a magic book containing letters from an inter-dimensional pen pal. As it just so happens, this pen pal also had sinister designs for Equestria, but was quashed by the Elements of Harmony. What's more, she's made amends since that day, and she's now Twilight's friendship student. Eager to bond with someone who can relate to him on a personal level and grow into a better draconequus, Discord packs his bags and heads off to the human world with Twilight's semi-blessing. His mission: Befriend Sunset Shimmer.

However, his plan has a bit of a snag. See, Sunset hasn't been keeping up with Equestrian events, and she never got the memo about Discord turning over a new leaf. As such, she believes that his sudden appearance doesn't bode well for Equestria, Canterlot High, or herself. Not only this, but the Sirens are privy to Discord's return as well, and they see this as a golden opportunity to bounce back from their own recent defeat. Well, Adagio does, anyway. Sonata doesn't want to live in a world that makes no sense, and Aria would rather maintain what little dignity she has left by not getting involved (or so she claims).

So while Discord is trying to earn Sunset's trust and show her what a good friend he is now, Adagio is trying to get in on an evil scheme that doesn't exist. And while that is going on, Sonata is appealing to the Rainbooms behind Adagio's back, hoping that they'll make Discord go away. With so much miscommunication thrown into the mix, you just know that hijinks are inevitable. Good thing Aria made popcorn.
