Alicornhood is a dream that most ponies never consider past their tenth birthday, when they finally understand reality. For Twilight Sparkle, that reality was just turned on its head. The day after her ascension, after the excitement and happiness has worn off slightly, the facts of the situation finally set in. During a breakfast conversation about the responsibility she will soon bear, Spike asks a simple question: "Do you really want to be a princess, Twilight?"

They call her the greatest stockbroker to ever hit Wall Street. Some call her the next Warren Buffett. Working from a nondescript, shoebox-sized office, her clients have earned millions through her shrewd investments.

She's...the "Pink Pony of Wall Street."

Love is felt in many different ways. Twilight loves her friends as friends; she would put her life on the line for any of them at the drop of a hat, and often does. She loves her family, and would go to whatever length needed to protect them and, if needed, help them in any way. She has loved as a lover, felt the tug of her heart for another pony, and the wish to always be in their embrace, never missing their body or voice. She has always kept these feelings separate.

When her dear friend, and undoubtedly family member Princess Celestia suffers an injury, she asks Twilight for help, and of course, Twilight is more than willing to assist in any way she can... at least, that's what she wants to tell herself. When the task at hoof requires loving a friend as a lover, things can get a little complicated.

Three months have come and gone since her freedom from the Nightmare, and in that time, she has done much learning. Learning of the new world around her, and what wonders a far more modern Equestria brings. With all light comes darkness; she of all knows this well. The texts she spends time flipping through often do tell of dark, unpleasant things, but all have seemed to be in the past.

Venturing into the world around her, spending nights high in the skies over cities and walking down long town roads, she is quick to discover the present holds its own secrets. In the shadows of accomplishment hides a beast which she is determined to slay.

After a mirror portal field trip being conducted by Luna goes terribly wrong, Ocellus finds herself trapped in a strange palace far from home. That palace, once abandoned, is now infested with a hive of love-starved changelings intent on using her only way home as a means to invade her world.

Otherwise, Ocellus appears to be alone.

The story is inspired by, and a homage to, my favorite game of the last decade. However, this story is neither a crossover nor AU. This story is set after "The End of the End" (but before "The Last Problem"), and is purely a My Little Pony story. It's been twenty-one years since Twilight Sparkle and her friends visited the alternate world of Equestria-V, wherein their lives and the fate of the entire multiverse hung in the balance. Though things have changed at home since their return—including accepting their clones from that alternate world into their own—things have generally settled down, for the most part, and that adventure is now long behind them.

Except for Rarity, who left a piece of herself in that other world and still longs to go back, no matter how impossible that might seem. However, a spell gone awry gives her—as well as Apple Bloom and Flurry Heart—the opportunity to make things right, and to see the ramifications of things that have happened since Rarity was last in that other world.

But when her newest friend Jesse, a troubled old man from another world, doesn't want her visits, doesn't want to smile, and just wants to be left alone, she's ashamed to realize that she's not sure it's even worth the effort anymore.
