Twilight lives a comfortable, expected life with the security of being surrounded by her mentors and friends. As she grows into a model unicorn, a dangerous being takes hold of the volatile Brood and drives them to war, breaking a long period of peace. After years of preparation for a higher order, Twilight is chosen to ascend beyond that of a typical sorcerer in a mysterious plan to counter the impending conflict.

During her dark, trying mission Twilight will discover a caged soul and unknowingly set them free, gradually acquiring an affinity for the darkness as a result. As she struggles within deepening conflict, she must push on and fight for what she believes in. With manipulation, deceit, and betrayal storming around, will she be able to contain herself and protect those she loves, or will she succumb to the creeping darkness and abandon everything she stands for?

This story is a sequel to It's Elementary, My Dear Rainbow


Something is going bump in the night in Ponyville, cutting a path of destruction through the quiet town. It's up to the brilliant mind of Twilight Sparkle to get to the bottom of this, accompanied as always by her loyal assistant (and new marefriend) Rainbow Dash.

This is a stand-alone story following the Twilight Holmes continuity established in It's Elementary, My Dear Rainbow. Reading the first story is recommended, but not required to enjoy Sabotage After Sunset. It is followed by Salting Snails.

Applejack and Rainbow have been secretly dating behind their friends' backs for a couple of months. However over the course of time Rainbow has found the farmer constantly making excuses to avoid her, and it seems that she is too busy for anything. It's a peaceful day, Rainbow is just taking it easy, doing her job just like everypony else, when she gets word that Applejack wants to see her right away. Unfortunately the news is terrible... It turns out that the mare of Rainbow's dreams had been lying to her all along...

Everything seems like it is spiralling out of control for the poor peagsus, and she seeks refuge in the one friend that she knows that will help her in time of need. Will Rainbow be able to piece back the parts of her broken heart? Will the now destroyed friendship between Rainbow and Applejack, be able to go back to normal after what happens? Does Applejack deserve to be forgiven for what choices she has made?

They say when one door closes, that another one opens... But why must some doors cause so much pain and suffering when they close?

Almost a year has gone by for Harry Dresden since he left Equestria. He'd have written, but between saving his newly discovered brother and destroying a scourge of vampires he's been a little busy. Then out of the blue he receives a strange letter from Twilight asking him to return. With no cases at the moment he eagerly accepts, but his friends aren't the only ponies expecting him. There's been a lot of rumors since his last visit and some ponies aren't too keen on seeing him come back.
