Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle all decide to have a friendly magic duel. It sounds innocent but when a spell goes horribly wrong the three find themselves in the other's hooves, literally. While trying to find a counterspell they have to deal with their new bodies, and learn a little bit about themselves along the way. What was going to be a day of fun competition soon turned into a mess of self discovery and revelations. Though as they say, what does not kill you can only make you stronger. Although no one said it was easy.

Slight shipping involved towards the end. Hence the romance tag.

Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer are going through a rough patch in their relationship. Sunburst is due to visit and his presence can only add to the friction.

It doesn't make things any easier when the two mares accidentally simulate a copy of the universe. One that simulates its own copy of the universe, which simulates its own copy, which simulates its own copy...

On the eve of the winter solstice, Starlight and Twilight are interrupted on what is definitely not a date by an injured Sunset Shimmer. She says she’s from the future, and she has the wings to prove it. She’s come to warn of a terrible threat to the changelings.

And, in Sunset's excitement, she lets slip that Twilight is her future wife.

Given the circumstances that had found her permanently posed in granite, Chrysalis hardly expected to find herself freed from that state by Starlight Glimmer herself - much less asked for help by her number-one nemesis.

But for Starlight Glimmer and Spike, all other alternatives are exhausted. Something is sickening the changelings: A disease which spreads by no clear vector, no observable cause, and has no known history in their species. If any information or hope of a cure exists, it may very well reside with the mind of their former queen.

But coercing Chrysalis to cooperate for the sake of those she views as traitors will be hard enough, and even if she does, what will the consequences of her information be?

Sunset Shimmer has lived in the human world for over ten years now. Some of the best and worst days of her life have happened there. When she finds herself no longer having a place in the world she's grown accustomed to she travels back to her homeland of Equestria to figure out who she is and where she belongs. What she finds is a land and people irreversibly changed by time.

Twilight Sparkle now rules over this new Equestria. It is a time of peace and prosperity for the entire world, so why does the Princess seem so sad?
Figuring out her own problems, an entirely different home than the one she grew up in, and her increasingly complicated relationship with Princess Twilight could be the most difficult thing Sunset Shimmer has ever done.

When the city of Vanhoover rebels against the Crown, threatening to ignite civil war and tear Equestria apart, it is up to the Princess of the Day to step forth and to do what is necessary to ensure that, no matter what, the Sun shines bright upon Equestria.

And more of Spike is eaten by non-existence.

Alphabittle grew up on stories of Bridlewood before the loss of magic. Against an overwhelming atmosphere of dark and dreary depression, there's only so much a single pony can do. But you can still do it and hope that one day it will be enough.

In an ongoing war against the ever-persisting changeling threat, Twilight Sparkle grows ever desperate to rid herself, her closest friends, and Equestria of Chrysalis and her army for good. Confiding in her friend Rainbow Dash that she feels as though all of their efforts have been for naught, begins to consider more drastic measures.

Rainbow, out of concern, and love her longtime friend, persuades her out of it, but after a day of fun between the two ends in tragedy, and after receiving a threatening visit from Chrysalis herself in the dead of night, Twilight finds herself with seemingly no other options but to open herself up to dark magic.

From there, things only get worse.
