A whole new year has started as the spring flowers are in bloom. After Rainbow received an invitation to Hope Hollow's Rainbow Festival, she decides to take her friends to kick things off.

However, upon arriving, Hope Hollow and the Rainbow Festival was... to put it softly oversold in the invitation as the town has seen better days, especially since all the color in the Hollow are gone.

Well, Twilight et al came this far and they have a reputation as heroes.

Can they bring the color back?
Can they help the hollow?
Or if will hope never return?

A My Little Mages retelling of Rainbow Roadtrip

Before Applejack left Hope Hollow, she encountered a stallion who’s light blue. Not only he has the same job as her brother’s, but he’s also have the same face and body. His name is Cottonflock. She was curious on his daily life since she never meet his family or sister. The fact she saw him just like his brother except his body’s color is different, gave her an idea once she return to Sweet Apple Acres. The following day after the Rainbow Festival, Applejack brings his brother Big Mac to Hope Hollow to have him meet Cottonflock face to face.

After the Rainbow Festival, Rarity's got a bit on her mind, and that bit involves Kerfuffle, the talented pegasus who helped her with the festival's design. She, however, has been a bit distant in the hours since the party got underway.

Torque Wrench is a young mare who's been a builder and repairpony for years. Kerfuffle is a fashion designer. These two ponies seem to come from two different worlds, but before Hope Hollow lost its color, they had been the best of friends born out of a bond neither of them had expected.

Can they rekindle their friendship? Or perhaps, will this become something more?

Set after the events of the Rainbow Roadtrip special, it's suggested that you've seen it before reading this.

It has been years since the Mayor's rainbow generator overloaded and drained Hope Hollow of its color. Kerfuffle did her best to stay happy and inspired despite the new gray world she found herself in, but even she has her limits. It's hard to make art in a world of gray, and now Kerfuffle's inspiration has finally left her. Struggling to get by and remain upbeat in a hopeless and friendless town, the pegasus soon finds herself feeling as gray and empty as the world she lives in. But perhaps a close encounter with death will show her that maybe there are still ponies in Hope Hollow who care, and maybe she's not as hopeless and empty on the inside as she feels...
