The My Little Pony Movie was amazing, with wonderful world building and well plotted out adventure and feels. But it ignored a lot of canon. Twilight has check lists for checking her check lists! Do you really think she wouldn't have a plan for an invasion, especially after what happened at Cadence's wedding? Also, Equestria already has friends and allies they could call on. So, here's my version of events.

Edit: Some of the early comments have given me cause to think about revising the second chapter, so I'm pulling it until I have a chance to do so. I may remove it altogether and let the first chapter stand on it's own, as I originally intended. The idea, after all, was to show that Equestria already had allies they could have called on, not to mock the actual film, which I enjoyed thoroughly.

Thrilled to have Starswirl, their mentor and honorary father back from Limbo has the royal sisters thrilled, and they tell him everything that he missed while he was away. Starswirl is glad to listen to the sisters contently. He is just glad they are happy in their roles as rulers.

This book is based on the season 7 finale...so spoiler territory is ahead. Proceed with caution.

Ponyville declares to Celestia that they are now their own sovereign nation. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

It angered Discord that he had to miss spending time with his friend Fluttershy at Twilights new Friendship Festival, it really did, but this was more important. The magic surge he had felt earlier that day was so familiar, yet he could not remember where he knew it from. Hopefully his friends wouldn't get in trouble while he was away.
