Where was Discord?

The End/ chapter 2

On a nice Sunday morning, if a citizen of Pineton happened to be traveling along the east road on the way to town, they would have seen a most peculiar sight at the sign post. Two strange individuals, one a battle-scarred zebra, the other a strange chimeric mishmash of animal parts. Now, to any well informed individual who lived in Equestria or the surrounding countries, the latter figure would be impossible not to recognize.

Discord Q. Draconequus was not having a good day. He had spent all night flying over several continents, was missing his quality time with his friends Fluttershy and Treehugger at the new Friendship Festival, and he had, only half an hour ago, been informed that several, ancient, powerful enemies currently knew of his location. Luckily he was Discord, the Lord of Chaos, who lived for unexpected surprises, even if said surprises were trying to kill him. On the bright side, he was on an adventure, seeing places he had never seen, and reuniting with an ancient ally, who had informed him that an entire multiverse load of chaos was about to descend on the world on which he stood. How delightfully chaotic!

"I will never understand how you function, Discord," The zebra remarked. "I bring such grave news, and yet you seem unable to wait for it to happen."

"Well Ubtao, my old buddy, my old pal, my old friend, you have just informed me of my saving grace," Was Discord's answer. "Can't you put it together yourself, on a harmonious world like this, only one thing can come out of the arrival of the Gods."

A few minutes passed before the answer presented itself in the immortal zebras head.

"Ah, I see, your going to use the resulting chaos to regain your lost power," Ubtao gave a look at his companion. "That could take centuries, even a millennia."

"That's true, but this world was unbalanced even before my arrival," Discord explained. "There's to much harmony, so any act of chaos is even more chaotic than usual, and gives me more power than on other worlds. Ever since I arrived here, my brand of chaos has become more harmless, so to speak. I don't think the native's could handle the old me, they're terrified of the silliest of things."

"Really, I haven't noticed?" Ubtao stared at Discord with a questioning look. "This seems like any other world I've been to, did you not see the bands of adventurers leaving the tavern. I could sense the experience on them."

"Well, I've only really stuck around the two more central continents," Discord answered. "Its the most unbalanced there, and my presence has, for the most part, balanced the place out."

With the matter settled, for the most part, both immortals stood there, staring at the clouds in silence. Several minutes later, Discord let out a long sigh. He contemplated what to do, whether he should spend the rest of the day talking with his immortal companion, or head back to the festival. Weighing the two options is his head, he thought to himself, why not just do both. The festival lasted all day, and well into the night, so he could spend some more time catching up with his old friend. It was only a day, what was the worst that could happen. Turning to look at the zebra, he made his decision.

"Well, I did say that I've never been here, so why not see the sights?" He said. "Equestria does get rather boring after several thousand years, something new would be rather relieving."

Ubtao sent a smile his way. "I do believe that the tavern had a roast boar special for today."

Both smiling, the two friends turned back towards the town, intent on having a good time drinking ale and retelling tales of the past. It would only be a day later, after he had returned home, that Discord would realize that it had not been his drunk mind that had made the sun and moon appear to act so strangely.
