Where was Discord?

On my way/prologue

The air was crisp and fresh as the sun rose over the vast forest of conifers. As the rising star graced the waking world with its light, the land below awoke with the chirps and tweets of song birds rising in their nests. Morning dew formed in little orbs on the pine needles, reflecting the sunlight in beautiful displays of rainbow light. As the world came to life, a sudden hush came over the wildlife as a large shadow slithered across the sky.

Discord Q. Draconequus was not in a good mood. In the days before his reformation this would result in plagues and droughts and hordes of strange, mish mashed monsters attacking any sentient creature and stealing their left socks. But, he was reformed, so he settled for grumbling instead. This was not how his day was meant to go. He should have been with Fluttershy, enjoying this new Friendship Festival thing that Twilight had come up with, not flying over a forest in the middle of nowhere several continents away tracking down a strange magic surge.

He had felt the surge the day before in his house in Chaosville while he was presenting his party suit to the Smooze and his pet clownfish Quincy. The surge had been strong, similar to when the princesses had transferred all their magic to Twilight, but more wild, and far more powerful. It had felt strangely familiar, but he could not place where he remembered the feeling from. Even more confusing was the fact that this surge reminded him of himself, which was very worrying. This was also the reason that he was flying toward the surge's origin as opposed to simply teleporting to the location with a snap of his fingers. He had been flying the entire night, and he had nearly arrived at his destination.

He could see buildings in the distance, rising above the tree line, with smoke wafting from multiple smokestacks. He could smell the roast bacon and flat cakes cooking in the morning air. It was breakfast time after all. A smirk came over his face as he drew closer to the town. This would be easy, the town was only the size of Ponyville, and with his magic, finding the origin of the surge would be as simple as a snap of his fingers. He was Discord, the lord of Chaos, he had nothing to fear. What in all the world could harm him with his mastery of chaos magic and unmatched intellect.

Yet, for some strange reason, he felt an unfamiliar sense of foreboding.
