person who is normal about twilight sparkle

T

Everyone has to sleep eventually—everyone, which means that at some point Sunset's new roommate is going to have to stop messing around with her computer and go to bed. But somehow the one-and-only Twilight Sparkle doesn't need to obey the laws of the universe, and therefore she might just be the one-and-only person who never sleeps.

nothing planned for now! but i will say, i AM quite attached to the idea of midnight being a part of twilight she has to learn to live with, so it's not entirely off the table

11645275
glad you liked it! it's actually the whole reason this fic exists; i usually start with endings and go backward from there :twilightsheepish:

WHEEEEEEEEEE!

This started off interestingly atmospheric, and ended up hysterically amusing, imho.
:twilightsmile::rainbowlaugh: 🤔

This is a very interesting take on Twilight Sparkle and her alter ego Midnight, written in a different style from how the material is usually written. Also, about the question of 'Where is human world Sunset Shimmer?'

Recommended. 👍

As always, your writing continues to astound. I'm particularly a big fan of stories that reflect upon the various doppelgangers that exist in Equestria Girls, and what their existence means to each other.

I didn't get the full contact until near the very end, but I think I understand now.

After the events of the Friendship Games, Sci-Twi is no longer able to sleep. Instead, Midnight Sparkle possesses her. Twilight goes to attend college, where she meets human world Sunset Shimmer. Human Sunset doesn't know anything about magic, while Midnight doesn't know that there's a second Sunset.

11645293
ah, im glad you've enjoyed it then! (i think? is "amusing" a good thing if i didn't intend for it to be so?)

11645294
yep, you got it! and i definitely agree with the other part of your comment; im so disappointed we didn't get to explore what the human sunset shimmer might be like :ajsleepy:

thanks for reading!

Phenomenal ending!! knowing your past fics have been aus i assumed this one must have been as well!! But then that ending paragraph came about and ir all clicked!! you're an absolute wizard at this!!

11645302
ahh tysm for the kind words! im so glad that you enjoyed the story, and that the "aha" moment at the end was worth it

Oh, this was fantastic. Especially the moment when the penny dropped and I realized this wasn't an AU. Magnificent work... though I do have to wonder what Midnight spends all night typing. I hope some of the two Sparkles' time is spent keeping in touch with their high school friends, and that at least some of them consider Midnight their friend in turn. If nothing else, Sunset deserves to know about her local counterpart.

In any case, brilliant little tale ripe that's for expansion should the mood take you. Thank you for it.

11645310
honestly? i boiled it down to halfway inspired by your "merge request" fic, with her communicating with midnight / leaving notes before they switch, and the other just programming homework and discord messages or smth. i figured she be too nervous to voice call w the rest of the humane 7 in case roommate-sunset ever overheard her use "her" sunset's name or something lol

glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for reading!

ah, im glad you've enjoyed it then! (i think? is "amusing" a good thing if i didn't intend for it to be so?)

To be fair, I have kind of a weird sense of humor. Watching Sunset get her world rocked (NOT a sexual euphemism, people who haven't read the story!) was funny to me. I would call this a good thing.

Okay, that was a fun read. :} The twist at the end made me chuckle too, because while I started to piece things together halfway through the narrative, it was still extremely well executed. Its rare to find a narrative twist like that that is handled with the amount of literary deftness you showed--many times, authors do give themselves away far more quickly.

So yeah, Fun read, and like many, there's a part of me going "oh, I'd love to see this story explored more, haha."

11645356
tysm for reading, and im glad you enjoyed it! im actually a bit humbled at the amount of interest in the concept, i definitely wasnt expecting that, and im not opposed to coming back to this "universe" someday if inspiration strikes ^^

Pretty interesting idea with Midnight remaining a part of Twilight after the fact and active while Twilight sleeps. I wonder, though, what she spends all night typing, what does an evil alternate ego do all night? If anything, considering the clock incident, Midnight isn't as knowledgeable of the world around her as Twilight since Twi would certainly know how an alarm clock works, so you think Midnight would be spending all night studying random stuff to sate her curiosity, which involves more reading and watching than typing.

Heh, maybe she spends all night writing all the cringe self-centered power fantasy stories of how she imagined she would have ruled the world had she not been defeated. Or, cringe erotica born of Twilight's repressed psyche. Both are equally likely.

11645356
Oh, shit, was not expecting to see you here!

11645434
i mentioned in another comment, but i figured it'd b a mix of twi communicating with midnight before she "sleeps", and vice versa (and perhaps in a similar manner to FanOfMostEverything's "merge request" fic), as well as actual homework + typed communication with the rest of the mane 6. i figured twi might be a person who doesnt use social media and prefers communication platforms like discord lol. but i don't specify, and you're free to interpret what's up however you wish!

thanks for reading ^^

I'll be honest, knowing the context of it, since Sunset didn't know who Twi was and being a Bleach fan (sickly white alter egos, duh) I was able to piece together what the story was about from the beginning, one comes out while the other "rests"... also, I've read some with this kind of idea but applied to Pinkie (besides her perspective or the "invader" personality)

Still, I really liked your story and as a Human!Sunset has been traumatized for life (although that can be fixed) because she's not sure that she's really her (and that can be very scary).

will you make a sequel?

11645493
glad you could still enjoy it! im not planning for a sequel atm bc i dont quite know what it would even be about? since the fic was a study on preconception and all, it's pretty much "complete" as is haha. but it's not off the table entirely!

11645444
*chuckles* I do read stories that crop up when I'm not working on Rubicon. (In this case, I read this one while I had to wait for my editor to get caffeine in her system.) I've actually read quite a few of the Sunset related stories on this site... I am just one of those people who doesnt comment often because I feel like commenting on someone's work should be something more substantial than gushing about how I liked it.

11645381
That's fair. It was an interesting premise, which I think it what hooked a lot of people into it, and like I said, very well executed. You have a definite flair and style, when I look at both this story and The Twilight Effect, and its engaging and fairly easy to follow while still maintaining a sense of mystery and drama. A hard balance to strike for a lot of writers and you've done a good job. :}

This is an absolute fascinating story, and I mean that in a good way. I really love stories that play with this specific dynamic, and this is probably one of the best ones I've read.

11645669
oh hey, i recognize that pfp :D glad you liked the fic!

The twist at the end and the build up to it were sublime!

This is some wild Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde stuff and the Human Sunset Shimmer is in the middle of it!

Because her roommate may have been the one-and-only Twilight Sparkle, but she wasn’t sure she was the only Sunset Shimmer anymore.

"Hah! One and only Twilight Sparkle. You wish😈."

"..."

"Oops. Did I say that outloud 😈."

Not sorry :pinkiecrazy:.

11645785
glad you enjoyed it! and yes, thats a rlly good way of putting the midnight-twilight dynamic i was going for haha

11645797
if we tell her abt princess twi she might combust on the spot; best to wait for her to come to terms with her other self first :twilightsheepish:

Dang, this was such a good story!

Lovely build-up, excellent atmosphere, brilliant twist. Now I understand what you meant about playing with preconception!

THE HORROR VIBES ARE AMAZING LILI I OWE YOU MY LIFE

While I did not really got much from the story itself (just not my cup of tea, sorry), I would like to learn more about the aforementioned study on narrative. Was it just about preconception in general, or something more?

Between Princess Twilight Sparkle from Equestria and Science Twilight Sparkle from Earth, their magic colided and a new entity was born---Midnight Sparkle, who Exists only in their sub-consciousness and dreams, and can travel between the realms. She's the demon who had the power to control, but only when having the chance…

OK, seriously that was a good story. I actually half expected that the reason Twilight never sleeps is that she made a pact with the demon Midnight Sparkle, so she could work on projects even when her original consciousness is asleep.

And only when the ending hit me did I realize that what we have here is actually the human Sunset. The atmosphere is good stuff, and it builds up the climax. Keep up the good work, regardless of whether you work on this possibility or not~

Absolutely stellar work here. The creeping tension, the underlying menace, the eventual reveal. Great stuff.

11645927
so glad you liked it! and im glad you enjoyed the “twist” aspect of it as well :D

11645929
THANK U FOR READING BESTIE MWAH

11645975
hey no worries! glad you gave it a shot anyway. and yes, it was mainly a study on preconception and how being a fanfiction inherently shapes the reader’s understanding of the narrative. we start with sunset and scitwi in a seemingly non-canon situation, so this builds the foundation that it’s an alternate universe from “our” sunset’s perspective, even though this is actually incorrect. the narrative itself cant exist outside of the context of this “misunderstanding”, since otherwise there’s no mystery going in.

11646057
thank you for the comment! so glad you liked the story and the twist, i had a lot of fun writing it ^^

(and, your assumption w midnight is p much correct, just perhaps a bit more involuntary than shed have liked )

11646064
tysm! it’s tricky to know when buildup is too little or too much, so im glad you enjoyed it ^^

11646151
The existence of an AU tag on the site and its non-presence on this fic spoils the intended twist somewhat. :derpytongue2:

This was an awesome read, even if I figured out the "twist" awhile before the big reveal. I almost want to read more of just wtf happens after this

That reveal got me good. I wasn't expecting this to tie with canon. You did very good on the preconception, I love it!

Also, Human!Sunset is now traumatised for the rest of her living days. And paranoid. Very paranoid. Her mind might go to Body Snatchers mindset after this with another her running about.

It was so good, I read it twice. And it was just as good the second time, from the new perspective given by the first read. Excellent writing.

11646285
thanks so much for reading!

11646474
and, im glad the second read was just as good ^^

11646287
thank you! im glad that you enjoyed the concept ^^

and, i would hope that scitwi has the decency to sit down with her and explain things when she "wakes up" xd

Figured out it was human sunset by the explanation of the Twilight thinking she'd seen a ghost

But no matter how hard she thought—or didn’t think—about it, she couldn’t do anything to change what she’d already done. And if that meant her first meeting with Twilight Sparkle came pre-packaged with bedhead and blurry vision and boxer shorts, then Sunset Shimmer was going to have to learn to deal.

Oh this is /great./ I like the alliteration with bedhead and blurry vision and boxers. You do a very good job of playing up the weird energy between the two of them. The idea of Twilight being an enigma who just types on her keyboard until the early morning is also really amusing.

“I’ll make something else later,” Sunset half-lied—half, because she was going to get hungry again in a few hours and it was going to be for another pack of Pop-Tarts. The microwave finally beeped. She grabbed her plate from the microwave before Twilight could judge her even further, and scooted around behind her to go back to her room.

I am Sunset. Sunset is me. Microwaved Pop-Tarts are just fine dining in aluminum disguise!

Pink light winked out from her fingertips.

Sunset heard a plate clatter against the floor.

When I was reading, I think this was where I started to think, “Hm. It’s weird that Sunset doesn’t know that Twilight can do magic.” But I dismissed the thought, because college AUs have different rules. AUs in general have different rules. Oh, sweet naivety.

is magic real

how to tell if roommate can do magic

does the government know about magic

am i having a mental break

hospital near me

hospital near me 24/7

DFSKSFKDFLGKLDFG this bit was very funny. Poor Sunset.

Canterlot High School Under Scrutiny: Second Destructive Incident Again Attributed to the Supernatural

I love when magic has consequences. >:) I also don’t know if this is intentional but because of how the article was described (re: bad grammar) I like to imagine this was written by some CHS student right after the games happened and submitted to a sketch self-publishing site because no other media outlet would accept it.

Because her roommate may have been the one-and-only Twilight Sparkle, but she wasn’t sure she was the only Sunset Shimmer anymore.

I have a very bad habit with spoiler bars where I see them and I just /have/ click and see what’s underneath. Wasn’t that fun? I think this is fun. So I read the little bit in the description and said, “Hm!” And then I started reading and I forgot about it. But goodness it was so clever to frame the story as a mystery about Twilight and not a mystery about Sunset. Because it’s kind of that weird thing where you think the twist is spoiled because of the necessities of posting a fic on here: I saw the title, the cover art, the tags, and went, “Aha! It’s Midnight Sparkle! Of course!” What a fool was I. (In the very best way c:)

ANYWAY spooky stuff is my absolute jam and I really really really loved this fic. It was an excellent use of reader assumption and it also fed right into my utter weakness for Human!Sunset fics, even if I didn't know about that second part until reading. But I think that makes it all the more fun. Thank you for the fic!! :D

11647217
ahhh it’s always so lovely to see a comment from you! i love your analysis and the little things u pick up on that make me bang on the walls and go “yes!!! u see me!!!!!!”

im so glad you enjoyed the story, and to ur point abt “spoilers”, the necessity of tagging stories / having cover art / the preconception of “this is our sunset” going in is honestly the main reason this fic exists. i loooove the written medium and all the cool things u can do with it, esp when it comes to tricking readers into thinking one way but then actually having it be something else entirely :D

thanks again for reading!

11645275
the author must be patting themselves damn hard on the back for that banger of a line.
