this was a really fun read!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it

Owner of restaurant to chef: You served apple pie made with FROZEN APPLES to Big Mac?
Chef: So? He's just some local.
Owner: His family owns Sweet Apple Acres, you idiot!
Chef: So...
Owner: So he knows that, at least for one dish, we are not using local ingredients. And with it being apples, the ingredient Ponyville was founded on growing, we soon will have ZERO CUSTOMERS unless I publicly do something drastic.
Chef: Fire me?
Owner: Good to know you are just an idiot, not a moron.

'Sabot Élégant', 'Hoof Elegant' in French, yeah no way it's fake. This was a fun read, great work, keep it up.

The ending was lovely, and I laughed loudly.

The entire story before that ending set us up very nicely for that, with a strong sense of character and of that character's viewpoint and voice. Really, if the story hadn't ended with a bang, it still would have been quite good.

I think a strong story like this from a little-known horsewords writer is what the New Blood Contest is for!

Thanks! As a fairly new horsewords writer, it's been a shock to see my second story winning a contest with so many other quality entries

First off, congrats, dude. I like fics that explore Big Mac's more intellectual side. Also, unless Foin Exquis also managed to burn the rose, it should *not* be a dark burgundy, and Sabot probably could've been able to tell something was wrong just by sight.

That was such a fun read. A fantastic image painted with wonderful wordcraft and delightful details.

I'd almost want to see the eventual scathing review just to see what would be said, but I can certainly see how it would mostly be rehashing what was already in the story already.

I unfortunately had the reveal at the end spoiled from the results of the contest (and the tags tbh), but that didn't really detract from the story. I can certainly see how you did so well. Well done

Enjoyed this thoroughly, up until the twist ending. Now I adore it. Good visuals, well executed story, overall a worthwhile read. Well done!

Hello! You've already seen my review of this, but here (much too late -- thank Covid, partly) is the courtesy note and upvote that should have gone with it. Certainly one of the better second person fics I've read, and fun (first read through, at least) to try to work out who the mystery pony might be!

I think this is the first second-person fic I've ever read on this site, and I have to say I thought you used the medium wonderfully. It fits the story purpose of experiencing a critic's review first hand (first hoof?) perfectly. I loved the setup - a mysterious food critic who everyone knows but who's identity remains a mystery - felt very Banksyesque! And I thought the inclusion of Rarity as a 'decoy' of sorts was great, she would absolutely relish playing that kind of role.

As for the twist at the end, I did not see it coming for the life of me. I had to immediately go back and reread the whole thing. Really clever, really fun, very well written!
