Chapter Four: Wrap Up, and Afterword

Twilight blinked as Rivet drained the last of his mug, looking up at him. "That's how you got into your construction? Why didn't you just retire? I'm sure it was a lot of bits?"

He wrapped his hooves around the empty mug, thinking as he stared down into it. Twilight looked over at her own half-full glass before she made a face and took another drink of the astonishingly still cold drink.

"By the sun, I think I'm getting used to it," she murmured darkly before taking another drink.

"It felt wrong," Rivet said. Twilight started writing again but paused and laid her quill down on the page. "It felt like I'd taken somethin' that weren't mine, right? So I wanted to use it to give something back, and my brother was already deep into the building work. It felt righ' to go into something that requires some good, hard work with your hooves, yeah?"

Twilight looked across from her at the stallion smiling into his mug before giving her own small smile.

"I think I understand," she said, leaning back from her notes and casting a drying spell on the ink. Looking across the table, she sighed before reaching over and grabbing her mug, downing the dark brew in two drinks and shuddering.

"Thanks," she said, smiling over at him. "I think I understand now. It's a good tale." She glanced down at the pages. "Do you mind if I share them?"

Chuckling, Rivet nodded. "Sure, Miss Twilight. Feel free to share it with any creature you want."

Afterward

Twilight sighed, leaning back from the massive planning table in Canterlot Castle. She twisted her neck and sighed as the two cracks released some of the tension.

"So, are we talking extension or another whole storage building?" she asked the group. Watching them all discuss between themselves, she fluffed her large wings and worked some of the sweat from her wingpits.

"I think an extension will cover the needs very well, Princess," one of her advisors said, a white-coated blond that only passingly reminded her of his grandfather.

"Very well. Will the usual contractor do?"

Every creature around the table nodded at each other, and Twilight called out a name.

Walking in the door came a stallion with a caramel coat and a light brown mane. No wrinkles showed beneath his horn, and his wings were still uncolored and wide, with no graying visible.

"Looking good, Rivet," Twilight said, smiling at their now-old joke.

He smiled back and murmured, "An' you, Miss Twilight, are still as pretty as ye ever was."

Author's Note:

Whew! That was a bit of a run, wasn't it? Don't think I've ever written a chaptered story and just published it all at once. Bit've a weird feeling. Hope you guys had fun, and I'll see some of you next time :trollestia:

the background character.

Really? He's not an OC?

Yeah, he appears a few times, and even once with a horn and wings. You can look up Rivet on the mlp wiki, he has a whole page! :pinkiehappy:

To the author- saw it featured in new stories & had to take a look.
hm?*tilts head to the side* looks like he could be the younger brother to air marshall www.fimfiction.net/story/416145/hello-my-name-is-air-marshal

Now. i don't know if the person who commissioned you had ya copycat this story or it's all just plain ole' coincidence!:unsuresweetie:

i'm not accusing ya plagiarism or anything! mind you cause that isn't me.
i've been on this site for about five years & wanna make absolutely sure that you're not banned from your account over such a matter

one persons interpretation of a background character doesn't make any basis for plagerism. I read that story when it came out. The only thing this shares is the concept. Which is not something that cam be claimed.

oh, and the link is broken

10889412
Ah, sorry, but that link doesn't work, and I don't know the story :twilightsheepish: Does the body of the work contain a lot of similarities? Or is it just in the same vein (oc/background character explored deeper)?

I googled the story, and it turns out to be the same background character! This is just a different take on the same show screw - up :rainbowlaugh:

This was cute. The good-natured carousing from the construction crew gave me some nostalgia, very well captured. Interesting story style with the transcription for their conversation, especially with Twilight adding her own 'corrections' to his speech. What a special talent though, that's the guy (stallion) you send up into space to stop the asteroid coming for the planet.

So he got a good touch of the alicorn longevity, if not any of the magical oomph.

Good story mate.

That was fun. Glad to have found this. :scootangel:

I enjoyed this! It had the low-stakes, character-driven charm of a Season 1 episode. Rivet’s backstory was neat, and I enjoyed Twilight’s reactions to him.

So the real question is did he have something in his blood that gave him this longevity or did his luck rear its head at some point and make him immortal.

I did remember a lot of people pointed that out that that construction Pony have horn and a wings which a lot of people says it's an error design and there was a couple of error design on a couple of ponies if I remember correctly

69th like. Nice.:ajsmug:

What a lovely story. An excellent study into how a person is deeper and more complex than the one thing that made them famous.

Well this was a pretty interesting story about Rivet life story and it looks like Twilight still kept in contact with him even to the last problem once again this was a pretty good story keep up the go to work

well i'm glad you found the story🙂

yeah, sorry about the link not working...i checked/previewed said message before publishing it. so blame my shitty laptop for that one!:flutterrage::facehoof:

thank you:heart:

also would liked to point out that i don't accuse authors of plagiarism willy nilly! cause that ain't me.
i've several other things to worry about😅

This good. I had fun time listening normal ponies talk around Twilight. For all that I like her. She is very very bourgeoisie.

Oh wow, that's a really nice way to wrap it up! Though, Rivet's lack of aging does seem to suggest that Celestia might not have been entirely honest when she examined him as a foal.

You know what? Now I want a sequel where Rivet is a guest at Flurry's Crystalling. Imagine, Equestria's TRUE first natural-born alicorn as the godfather Crystaller for the second one. I'm sure Sunburst wouldn't mind, especially if Twilight and Starlight rope him into the inevitable case study of the two extremes of natural alicorns. SCIENCE!!!

Short but great story. I hope there will be more of that kind.
