It is only a few years before Daybreaker is released from her banishment, and Luna has yet to find the hero who will save her corrupt sister. But one day, a unicorn catches her attention, and Luna decides to make her student, by the time Luna passes with her pupil, she sees that this unicorn is very different from Twilight Sparkle and sees that this may be the future hero who will save her sister.

first yes thestrals are bat-ponies. second dayternal is not a word the correct term is diurnal. third i just thought of a third option the thestrals could be crepuscular which mean only active during twilight hours which would be between dawn and sunrise, and sunset and dusk.
