Sunset Shimmer goes to Luna's school to take the test to see if she can becomes student of the princess of the night. She pass the test and become the student of Luna. She will devote herself and spend time with the princess.
It is only a few years before Daybreaker is released from her banishment, and Luna has yet to find the hero who will save her corrupt sister. But one day, a unicorn catches her attention, and Luna decides to make her student, by the time Luna passes with her pupil, she sees that this unicorn is very different from Twilight Sparkle and sees that this may be the future hero who will save her sister.
The winter moon celebration would begin in a few minutes, all the ponies were in the audience waiting for Luna as the bugles played. Sunset Shimmer was going forward to have a good view, she was with a smile on her face. Then, Luna finally appeared on the stage. Sunset Shimmer smiled at the sight of Luna. Luna began to rise to raise the moon, everypony was impressed, but Sunset Shimmer was the one who was most impressed. Luna then opened her eyes and everypony began to applaud. Sunset Shimmer just kept smiling.
The celebration was over and Sunset Shimmer was trying to turn the page of a book with its magic. It took a few seconds, but managed to turn the page and continue reading.
Sunset Shimmer finished reading all the books that were on the table.
Her parents showed up and showed Sunset Shimmer a leaflet saying she was going to go to Princess Luna’s school. Sunset Shimmer jumped for joy.
Sunset Shimmer was in the room to do a test, she was very nervous. If she passed, she would go to school. She looked at her parents nervously, her parents gave a supportive smile, Sunset Shimmer seemed calmer.
A unicorn with glasses entered the room with a red egg with orange balls. “Mrs. Shimmer, you have to shock the egg with its magic”, said the unicorn.
Sunset Shimmer took a deep breath before she began to use her magic, but only a few sparks came out. Sunset Shimmer tried everything to get the egg to crash, but it just came out more sparks and Sunset Shimmer fell to the ground.
“I’m sorry for making you waste your time", said Sunset Shimmer as she stood up from the floor.
Suddenly, an explosion in the sky occurred and magic came out of the horn of Sunset Shimmer and went to the egg. The egg shook and a red dragon baby with orange scales came out. Then, Sunset Shimmer lost control of her magic. Her eyes glittered white, her parents turned to plants, the unicorns hung in the air and the baby dragon turned an adult dragon to the ceiling.
Outside the school, Luna saw the head of an adult red dragon with orange scales.
Sunset Shimmer was still out of control of her magic. Until, she felt a comforting hoof on her back. Sunset Shimmer turned and saw Luna looking at her with a comforting smile. Sunset Shimmer’s eyes returned to normal, the parents were no longer plants, the unicorns fell to the ground and the adult dragon was once again a baby dragon.
“Sunset Shimmer”, began Luna.
“I’m sorry, i didn’t want to ...” interrupted Sunset Shimmer.
“You have a very special gift. I have never encountered a unicorn with its innate abilities”, said Luna.
“Huh?” asked Sunset Shimmer confused.
“Sunset Shimmer, I’d like you to become my student at school”, said Luna.
“Huh?!” exclaimed Sunset Shimmer suprised by what Luna said.
“Do you accept it?” asked Luna.
“Yes!” exclaimed Sunset Shimmer cheerfully in the air.
“Another thing, Sunset”, interrupted Luna.
“Huh?” asked Sunset Shimmer before falling to the ground.
Luna approached Sunset Shimmer and pointed at the Cutie Mark in Sunset Shimmer’s flank. The Cutie Mark was a setting sun.
After Sunset Shimmer stopped jumping around Luna, Luna said to Sunset Shimmer, “come, Sunset”, said Luna. “I’ll show you where you’re staying in the castle”
“Okay, Princess”, said Sunset Shimmer.
Sunset Shimmer and Luna entered a room they had in the castle for the ponies sleeping in the castle, “This is your room”, explained Luna.
Sunset Shimmer looked at the room very happy. She saw that in the room there was a bookcase, a bed with a blanket of moon and stars and a balcony.
“Did you like it, Sunset Shimmer?” asked Luna with a smile.
Sunset Shimmer stopped looking at the room and looked back at Luna with a big smile, “I loved it, princess!” exclaimed Sunset Shimmer cheerfully.
Suddenly, Sunset Shimmer’s stomach rumbled, “hehe, I guess I didn’t eat it before coming to your school”, said Sunset Shimmer with a small smile.
“Let’s eat something, then”, said Luna.
Luna and Sunset Shimmer sat side by side. A unicorn with a block went to the table to ask, “What would you like to eat for lunch?”
“I’d like to eat a vegetable soup, please,” said Luna. “And you, Sunset Shimmer?”
“I’d like to eat the same as you, please”, said Sunset Shimmer.
The unicorn nodded before going into the kitchen. Luna and Sunset Shimmer were left alone for a while.
“So, Sunset”, began Luna. “What you enjoy doing?”
“I like to read and write in my journal”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
“That’s cool, Sunset”, said Luna with a smile.
“But my diary is at home”, Sunset Shimmer pouted.
“Oh, would you like to go and get it?” asked Luna.
“Would you let it?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
“Of course”, smiled Luna.
“But what about my soup, Luna?” asked Sunset Shimmer worriedly. “What if it gets cold when I get back?”
“Would you like to eat the soup first?” asked Luna.
“Yes”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
The unicorn came out of the kitchen with two soup plates and handed it to Luna and Sunset Shimmer.
Luna and Sunset Shimmer picked up their spoons and began to eat the soup.
Sunset Shimmer and Luna have finished eating the soup. Sunset Shimmer decided to ask Luna, “So, can I go get my diary back at home?”
“Of course you can”, replied Luna.
Sunset Shimmer left the chair and went to the exit to go to her house to get her diary.
Sunset Shimmer had already returned to the castle with her diary, Luna’s guards saw Sunset Shimmer and let her through.
“Princess, I came back”, said Sunset Shimmer.
Luna appeared and went to Sunset Shimmer, “would you like to go to your room to keep?” asked Luna.
“Yes, princess”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
“Go on, Sunset”, said Luna.
Sunset Shimmer hurried to her room to keep her diary.
Sunset Shimmer already kept the diary in the room and went to look for Luna in the castle. It wasn’t long before she found Luna.
Suddenly, she remembered something, “Luna!” called Sunset Shimmer.
“What is it, Sunset?” asked Luna.
“Where is that baby red dragon with orange scales?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
“Oh, would you like to be with him?” asked Luna.
“Yes, princess”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
“I’ll bring him, wait here, Sunset”, said Luna.
Sunset Shimmer nodded.
Sunset Shimmer saw Luna bring the baby dragon with her magic, “here he is, Sunset”, said Luna.
Luna placed the baby dragon on the ground, Sunset Shimmer went up to the dragon and hugged him with the front hooves.
“What name would you like to give him, Sunset?” asked Luna.
“Garble”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
"It's a cool name for a dragon", smiled Luna.
"Sunset, do you know how to take care of a dragon?" asked Luna.
Sunset Shimmer's ears dropped, "no, princess", said Sunset Shimmer sadly.
"There should be some book in the castle library about how to take care of dragons", said Luna.
"Yeah, I'll see that now, princess", Sunset Shimmer put Garble on her back before heading to the castle library.
Sunset Shimmer entered the castle library with Garble on her back.
“Come on, Garble,” said Sunset Shimmer. “Time to learn more about your species”
It took about five minutes for Sunset Shimmer to find a book that talked about dragons. But she found the book, put Garble on her back, and ran out of the library to read the book in her bedroom.
Luna was in her room watching the moon on the balcony, “Sunset Shimmer is really different from Twilight Sparkle”, said Luna.
And what Luna said was true. Because Sunset Shimmer was not arrogant and rude like Twilight Sparkle. Sunset Shimmer was polite and respected Luna. This was something she liked about Sunset Shimmer.
Suddenly she heard clattering hooves. Luna went to the door to see who was running and saw Sunset Shimmer with a book on her magic and Garble on her back. Sunset Shimmer stopped running at the sight of Luna looking at her curiously.
“Hi, Sunset Shimmer,” said Luna. “Where are you going with so much prey?”
“I’m going to go to my room to read this book”, said Sunset Shimmer shyly staring at the floor.
"Would you like me to read the book for you?" offered Luna with a smile.
"No, thank you, princess", Sunset Shimmer looked at Luna. "I can read by myself"
Luna nodded and Sunset Shimmer continued her way, but walking this time.
Luna closed the door to her room and took a deep breath before looking back at the moon.
Sunset Shimmer and Garble were already in their room. Sunset Shimmer went to her bed and began to read the book. Garble tried to climb onto the bed. But he couldn't get over the bed being too tall for him. Sunset Shimmer noticed this, and she grabbed Garble with her magic and placed him beside her on the bed before she began to read the book.
It was a few hours already, and Sunset Shimmer had just finished reading the book. Sunset Shimmer looked at the balcony and saw that the sun was rising on the horizon. Before Sunset Shimmer went to sleep, she put Garble on her back and went to the library to return the withdrawn book.
After returning the book to the library, Sunset Shimmer placed Garble in a sleeping basket that was in the bedroom, unfolded the blanket, and covered Garble. That done, she went to her bed and covered herself with the blanket and fell asleep.
It’s been a few years, and Sunset Shimmer has grown into an adult mare and Garble now knew how to speak, but he wasn’t an adult dragon.
It was dusk at Equestria now and Sunset Shimmer awoke from her sleep. She got out of her bed, tidied up the blanket, and went to the basket where Garble slept to wake him.
“Five more minutes”, said Garble sleepily.
“Okay, Garble,” said Sunset Shimmer with a smile.
Sunset Shimmer heard a knock on the door, “Princess Luna is waiting for you in the dining room for breakfast”, Luna’s guard said in the doorway of the closed room.
“I’ll be right there”, said Sunset Shimmer staring at the door.
Sunset Shimmer looked at Garble and nudged him lightly with a hoof, “come on Garble, get up,” said Sunset Shimmer. “Let’s go have breakfast”
In response, Garble turned to the right side of the basket, “five more minutes”, said Garble still sleepy.
“Okay, Garble,” said Sunset Shimmer. “But when I get back you must have gotten up already”
Garble nodded and went back to sleep.
Sunset Shimmer left the room, closed the door, and went into the dining room.
When Sunset Shimmer arrived at the door of the dining room, she took a deep breath before opening the door and seeing her teacher eating pancakes, “good evening, Sunset,” said Luna with a smile. “Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, Luna”, replied Sunset Shimmer with a smile.
“Where’s your dragon?” asked Luna noting that Garble wasn’t with Sunset Shimmer.
“He’s still sleeping”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
“Oh, okay then,” said Luna. “Would you like some pancakes?”
“Yes, please”, replied Sunset Shimmer as she walked to a chair that was next to Luna to sit down.
“Waiter”, called Luna.
A unicorn went to the table where Luna and Sunset Shimmer sat, “yes, Your Majesty?” asked the waiter.
“My student would like to eat pancakes”, replied Luna.
“I’ll arrange it now”, said the waiter before going out into the kitchen.
A unicorn in cook clothing came out of the kitchen with a plate with a tower of pancakes on the plate, went to the table and placed the plate of pancakes on the table to Shimmer Sunset eat.
Sunset Shimmer stared at the pancake tower in front of her before she began to eat.
“So, Sunset,” began Luna. “What are you thinking of being my student?”
Sunset Shimmer swallowed the piece of pancake she had in her mouth before replying, “i’m loving it, princess”
“I’m glad to hear that, Sunset Shimmer”, said Luna with a smile.
After Sunset Shimmer finished eating she went to ask the waiter if they had some precious jewelry and he said "yes". Then she went to her room to wake Garble. And Luna went to the throne room to start the night court.
Sunset Shimmer opened the door to her room and saw Garble already awake, “Good evening, Garble”, said Sunset Shimmer with a smile.
“Good evening, Sunset”, said Garble.
“I brought your food”, said Sunset Shimmer before displaying a plate of precious jewels.
Garble picked up his plate and began to eat quickly, “Wow, you’re really hungry”, said Sunset Shimmer still smiling.
When Garble finished eating all the jewelry, he belched, “I’m sorry”, said Garble.
Sunset Shimmer was going to the castle library with Garble on her back.
“Why are we going to the library anyway?” asked Garble confused.
Sunset continued looking forward, “because the princess asked me to read books by the end of the night, and I can’t disappoint her”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
“You want me to help you find the books for you to read?” offered Garble.
“Yes, thank you, Garble”, said Sunset Shimmer with a smile.
When Sunset Shimmer was reading a book on the library desk Garble said on a ladder, “Sunset, I found a book with a funny title”
Sunset Shimmer took her eyes from the book and looked at Garble, “what’s the name of the book?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
“The mare in the sun”, Garble read the title of the book.
Now Sunset Shimmer was curious, “can you bring it to me so I can read?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
Garble went down the stairs and went to Sunset Shimmer with the book in his hands.
Sunset Shimmer took the book with her magic and began to read.

Sunset Shimmer looked a bit suprised with what she just read, “I’ll stay here and search more about it”, said Sunset Shimmer.
Sunset Shimmer found another book that looked for the subject she was researching and began to read.
’The mare in the sun - An ancient fable of ponies. A powerful pony who wanted to rule Equestria. Overcome by the Elements of harmony and imprisoned in the sun. Legend has it that in the longest night of the thousandth year, the heat waves will help her escape and she will bring the eternal day’
Sunset Shimmer looked frightened and worried about it, because the celebration of the winter moon was tomorrow, and this celebration is of the thousandth year. She had to go and warn Luna about it.
“Garble, wait here, I’ll be right back”, said Sunset Shimmer.
“Okay, Sunset”, replied Garble.
Sunset Shimmer ran out of the library to go where she believed Luna was now.
Luna was sitting on her throne arguing with the economics nobles until she heard a knock on the door, “you may come in,” said Luna.
The door opened and Sunset Shimmer came running to Luna, “princess Luna, I need to tell you something important”, began Sunset Shimmer.
Luna seeing that maybe what Sunset Shimmer wanted to tell her was important, she said, “the night court is closed for today”
All the ponies except Sunset Shimmer bowed and said, “Yes, your majesty”
The ponies left the room and went out of the throne room. When everypony left, Luna went up to Sunset Shimmer asking, “What is it, Sunset Shimmer?”
“I read a book that spoke of the mare of the sun, and said that in the longest night of the thousandth year, the heat waves would help escape it and she would bring the eternal day”, replied Sunset Shimmer.
“That is, tomorrow”, concluded Luna.
“Yes, Luna,” replied Sunset Shimmer. “And now?”
“Now you have to go to Ponyville to check the preparations for the winter moon and make friends”, replied Luna.
“Really?” asked Sunset Shimmer unsmilingly. “I don’t need friends”
“I understand, Sunset”, realized Luna. “But to be able to defeat Daybreaker, you will need the help of friends”
“But I can do this by myself,” tried Sunset Shimmer. “I can defeat Daybreaker alone”
“Sunset Shimmer, trust me,” said Luna with a smile. “You’ll need friends to defeat Daybreaker”
Sunset Shimmer looked defeated, “okay, princess”, said Sunset Shimmer with her ears lowered.
“I’m going to make a list so you know what you should check and prepare your carriage to go to Ponyville”, said Luna.
“Okay, princess,” said Sunset Shimmer. “But where am I going to stay in Ponyville?”
“In the Golden Oka’s Tree Library”, said Luna.
“Okay, princess,” said Sunset Shimmer. “I’ll get Garble so he can help me”
