Twilight is the one pony in the lunar settlement to ever graduate from the Divine Princess's School for Gifted Unicorns. But she's back home now, where the colonists are living under the oppressive hoof of officials from Equestria below. One day, she's called on to fix the spell-nexus that keeps the settlement alive with its magic, only discovers that it's alive... and it calls itself "Luna."

And Luna wants Twilight to lead a revolution.

Inspired by Robert Heinlein's The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, but not a crossover in setting or characters. Expect further updates later this summer.

An interesting start. Please keep going.

Oh hello... this is very, very interesting indeed! I'm loving this setting you've created. :pinkiehappy:

Not sure what is going on, but I am curious enough to find out.

I first published this chapter earlier this week, but there was a hiccup and it didn't send out notifications. So, I'm making a point of publishing Chapter Three a bit earlier than I planned so everyone can get a new chapter notification this week.

Hope you enjoy it!

Huh....interested to see where this leads

Anaspace...? Hah, fourth-dimension, right?

Dragoon Shiny into your cause, Twilight! :pinkiehappy:

Neat little fic here. I checked it out after you posted it in Hazardous Writing Materials. I don't really know the source material, but this is still a pretty interesting alternate universe. I'm not usually fond of Tyrantlestia stuff, but within the context of this universe, I suppose it works pretty well. This deserves more views, though it starts out so cryptically that I can see why not everyone would be on board for it. You might want to revise your description to make it a little easier to jump into.

6978357 Yep!

6978402 Thanks! Now that I think about it, you're right that the beginning could be better... I could always put in a brief preface, but I'd rather not. (Twilight the Narrator would disapprove, though her mother's probably told her about the art of beginning a story.) Any suggestions? How could the description have helped you more?

6979019 Well, I was up late and dealing with insomnia when I commented, so go ahead and take some of what I said with a grain of salt. :twilightsheepish:

Looking back over the introduction, I actually think it flows better than I gave it credit for, so maybe that part is fine as it stands.

The description, however, is accurate, but it's also busy, which means that it's a lot to take in and that can scare off new readers. Let's see if we can't clean it up a little bit...

Twilight is one of many Lunar Colonists living in the twisting, underground tunnels beneath the Moon's surface. The colonists, including Twilight's family, are scorned as second-class citizens and live under the oppressive hoof of the officials from Equestria below. But Twilight is special: she is the one pony from the lunar settlement to ever graduate from the Divine Princess's School of Gifted Unicorns. One day, she is called upon to fix the moon's spell nexus, the magical force that makes the settlement inhabitable, only to discover that it is alive... and it calls itself "Luna."

Not sure if it's perfect, but it introduces several key elements and I think it gives a bit more for readers to visualize and imagine, which might spark their interest. Feel free to use this on the whole or just in part. Good luck!

Liking and tracking, cobber!

Oooooh. The plot thickens...

6998771 6999932 Indeed it does thicken... The real conspiracy is about to get started. Glad both of you like it!

So one Princess is neglectful (at best), and the other is keeping secrets in her prison, and Pony's First Conspiracy starting up. :rainbowlaugh:

“The spell-nexus is what keeps the tunnels lit, keeps our air fresh, and keeps the air from leaking out through the rock, right?”

spell-nexus weakens Luna and slows down four stars?

Howdy! I managed to get caught up on this amid a lot of other things going on recently. Anyway, the story looks like it's really shaping up and building into something more. I wonder when Twilight will tell the others who Luna really is and what their reaction will be.

A bit about the main description: while I'm flattered you took my advice and made some changes, I noticed some things.

You should probably change it to "only to discover" and not use "alive" twice in succession like that. Perhaps you could try this:

One day, she's called on to fix the spell-nexus that keeps the settlement alive with its magic, only to discover that the nexus is a living being... and it calls itself "Luna."

Sorry if any of that was originally my fault. :twilightsheepish:

Good luck with the rest of the story!

Hey any plans on restarting this? I rather enjoy it.

So I wonder; who's the harsh mistress?

Good start.

I dearly hope you pick this back up. It's been a deeply engaging read thus far.

7541913 8229946 Thank you for your encouragement! I actually just picked the story back up a couple days ago. I want to get at least the next several chapters finished before I post anything, but hopefully in another month or two...
