Dragons aren't willing to part with many things, certainly not their gold or jewels or anything else they've gone through the trouble of collecting.
And after a dragon has built her nest and is getting ready to hatch her young, they really dislike being disturbed.
So why, one female dragon wonders, has this little pony strolled right into her cave?
Really cute short story, I enjoyed it a lot.
I can dig it.

Good!
I meant to bounce this off of you like usual, but I was surprised it got approved so fast. So I suppose the gdoc will just sit in my drive, collecting virtual dust.
Hm. Gdoc hoarding. The secret to growth spurt in writing?
And so both got something they wanted for something they couldn't care less about. That's what I call a fair deal.

The fairest!
So…we're SURE he got a boulder and not an egg, right?

Pretty sure. We've seen a dragon egg before.

And Spike has been able to grow to a full dragon's size twice, so I don't think he's abnormal. That was probably a normal egg Twilight hatched.
...
Unless Spike was the runt, and normal dragons are born from really, really, really big eggs, and that one got petrified by a cockatrice somehow before it hatched.

Given that it's SPIKE, he very well may be a runt. Plus, there could be different kinds of dragons...
That's how he got the egg.
