Want to know how far someone can get writing fan-fictions without watching the show? Lets find out together!

T

Nearly a century ago, he found himself in a world he recognized, one he dove into with an enthusiasm only an RPG lover could manage. But it wasn't everything he'd hoped, it wasn't a paradise. It was a prison. Now, after a desperate attempt to flee that empty world, he finds himself lost once again. Only now, he can feel the wind and the snow. He can feel hunger gnawing at his stomach. He feels the burn of every step he pushes his body to take.

Definitely worth it.

I like where this is going

Ah, good old Morrowind. I'll be watching this closely, as you have an interesting premise going here.

So, your protagonist is responsible for the reappearance of the Crystal Kingdom? Hmm... intriguing.

5905547 I was actually torn between liking the abilities and powers from Skyrim, and the fact that you get immortality in Morrowind. I think the latter would make a much bigger impact on events, all things considered. Celestia isn't going to be able to play the long-game with The Lost.

Interesting premise. Followed.

APS

LOL

Out. That's what he'd forgotten. The apples were like a pack of dogs, barking at the back door. Oh holy mother of mercy, he only hoped he found a bathroom in time. He had no wish to unleash Namira's wrath at the large gathering that was celebrating the return of an artifact of purity and happiness.

5912167 Ah yes, Lady Namira, Daedric Prince of Decay. Truly one being that does not belong around the Crystal Heart.

APS

5912817 Ah.. :twilightoops: was thinking it was more like montezuma's revenge (spraying the crystal heart and ponies from both ends. :pinkiesick:)

Traveler's diarrhea

5912870 I don't know, I like the idea of him summoning a rift to oblivion through the absolute nastiness he's going to unleash.

So, this is a marrowind crossover...looked it up on youtube, looks decent I guess, I don't have a proper opinion.

I feel he should run the show. Have him build up his leadership stat.

Up to you, but him running the crystal empire will allow interactions with The Princesses and the Elements of Harmony, I don't think they would allow Sombra to run free (Crystal Empire disappeared as part of Banishing Sombra). This also puts out Celestia's plans for Cadence and Shining if the Crystal Empire is already saved by someone else other than the Equestians, But that's just my ideas on it, the story is entirely up to you.

5915811 I had it in my head that Sombra was banished, and he banished the empire before they got him, as part of a "If I can't have it no one can" kinda thing. I would love nothing more than to have cadence show up and demand her throne only to find someone else's bottom warming it, but the question is, how early do I want him there, and what can I do with him in the meantime. I mean, it wouldn't be too far fetched for me to place his arrival about 500 ANM, since he had to hit that banishment spell pretty hard. On the other hand, he could wander around bothering changelings, gryphons, diamond dogs, zebras, seaponies(I did like the in-game book breathing water), everyone. Decisions, decisions.... hmm, I think there was a nice spell set I could use for this, I used it all the time for quests... mark and recall? Only thing I have to decide is the when. I'll figure that out after I play some more morrowind.

5915844
Yep, Morrowind helps with everything. :pinkiehappy:
Well, sounds like it will turn out to be a good read.

5915844
need a solution? Throw marrowind physics at it.

Yeah, sure, "for science", that's all.

5919628 My dear sir, are you implying that a poor man deprived of any contact for eighty years would be interested in something else?

5919628
Of course. It needs to be documented, otherwise it's Witchcraft!

5919693
of course not, he will merely observe the pony creature, not doing anything else, just watching, for realzies, only watching, he certainly won't partake in any activities, no sir.

It would have been nice to describe what his form was like, before going on about the amazing armor that he was changing around. It was perfectly valid to imagine him as an anthropomorphic armadillo, and that's just silly.

combination of morrowwind and minecraft? I like where this is going.

5919693
Have him run the Crystal Empire, Have him run around the world, why not have him do both? Warrior King *something something*. Maybe he could run the place as himself but go incognito when adventuring (or vise versa) but still have a stand in or is still able to run the empire. Oh, what abut his physical appearance? The first citizen he encountered mistook him for their ex-king Sombra. Is he in Sombra's body, does he look like him, or was it just his armor? I'm leaning towards him running the empire. The hilarity would be exponential for the time Cadence and Shining Armor are introduced to the empire.

-The outlander sits upon the throne of the crystal empire while the two supposed/would be destined royals gawk at the "new" king. ". . . . . . . .sup," he greeted the couple with the most confidence and grace of a high king, which was quite a lot considering his choice of vocabulary.

no 'Human' tag? assuming he was one before this all started... + you get more views, etc :twilightsheepish:

I second Hard Cider's post!!!! all the shiggles to behold.:pinkiecrazy:

Clearly he needs to rule the crystal Empire, for great science! (and just think of all the booty a king can get?!)

Grandmaster of House Hlaalu

DF

The end of the chapter causes me to break out into uncontrollable giggles.

Spent last evening reading your other works, and found this gem.
Displaced human in Morrowind, who postgame was displaced again to Equestria. Never seen that twist on the take before.
The lack of a set timeframe is troubling, but then again he IS post game, so he IS ageless... theoretically at least.
(Might want to give a more detailed list of his current inventory.)
The Nerevarine was the ultimate authority on all matters in Morrowind post game, basically the Vvardenfell version of the Monopoly man.
But only on Paper.
He could easily be called the Wandering King by the crystal ponies, who just pile the most important paperwork for him to deal with when he passes through every few months. After all that shiny palace would make a great player home to store all his rare and unique loot.
Fast forward years later, and Candace shows up to take her throne and the crystal ponies point in the vague direction Nerevar last wandered in, telling her to take it up with him.

If you choose to have him play the wandering hero long enough, would he not also be an Alicorn?

"Sir, I'll need you to disarm. You can't have weapons here."
"HAHAHAHAHA no."

Wow, like this one too. I wonder, how good he is in Alchemy? Alchemy is strong, especially if you know the trick.

Cloaked Storm

I see what you did there.

t. What did he know about the guy? He obviously liked crystals, considering the décor, and he had a thing for stairs. Maybe that was it. It was stupid, but hell, he'd drowned himself before for the sake of a quest. Why not, right?
"..And I love you *step* and I love you *step* and I love you *step*, and I most certainly, most definitely love you, little stair. You know why? *hop* Because you're the last Gods-damned step of the group."

:rainbowlaugh:

"Oh god, cake. I haven't had one of those in soooo long."

Elsewhere, Celestia glanced nervously at one of her cakes. She had an uneasy feeling...like some kleptomaniac was contemplating stealing it.

"Sir, I'll need you to disarm :applejackunsure: . You can't have weapons here :ajsmug:."

"HAHAHAHAHA :pinkiehappy: no :pinkiecrazy:."

oh dear god if i didn't know any better you was thinking of me when i play video games when people tell me to remove my weapons. Then i remember i can just rip them apart with my bare hands

6604265 ever use a heal stick?

6604464 never played any elder scrolls until skyrim

6605257 Morrowind had skills for each weapon type (blunt, spear, short sword, ranged) and the most difficult to level, in many peoples opinion was the staff. To level it, the easiest thing, IMO, was to enchant a staff to heal as you hit the target. You got to train, and didn't have to hunt for more mobs.

6451254

No. She looked at her sweet roll, as if some kleptomaniac was contemplating stealing it.

Ahh, Sunder, Keening, and Wraithguard, the tools of Lord Kagrenac, perfect for messing with a heart, whether it be that of Lorkhan or the Crystal Heart.

Wait is cloaked storm a unicorn, pegasus, alicorn, or earth pony, because I don't think you have made that clear at any point.

Edit: And now I feel stupid for asking, since it wouldn't matter. He could easily replicate all of their abilities with his magic.

Ohhh, this was in my read later for a long time and even the first chapter promises interesting things.
And Morrowind? Hmmm... will he be able to glitch out the intelligence/luck potions? Onwards!

coacoa

Cocoa. You accidentally put an extra "a" in it.

Lootlootlootlootloot....

by Mara's bouncing bosom

You have no idea how much I love you for this sentence :D:D

caught a mares

Mare's

I really need to replay that game, now that I speak english. Also, Moon and Star? Maybe some one upping conflict woth Luna? Would be fun.

Will you continue this story sometime in the future? It's been close to a year since it was last updated and I personally like it more than Substitute so far.

7097364 I had fun with it, but I was going to turn this into Ares' backstory, so it would end differently. Either way both magic's shadow and Crystal outlander are going to get a make-over when I find the time motivation

7100189 What? Nooooooooooo! It would've been fun to read about an oblivious god, instead of a broken and betrayed guy. Also, I want to see him making super-potions and showing them to someone
The two characters seem a bit too different for me to warrant a shift into one another.

As for Magic's shadow... well, the story haven't really headed anywhere yet, so I can't really say anything against rewriting.

7100273 The thing is, Cost of Asylum would happen nearly 600 years after this guy would get loose on the world. plenty of time for the MC to recover from his insanity.

7100465 My issue was not with him recovering, but the fact that Ares went to Celestia offering something, which I would guess knowledge, while the current guy is still thinking with the rules of the game. And if we go with the game setup, I'm not sure even the spells could be taught by him, as you don't actually read the spellbook in Morrowind, you just activate them and poof yer a wizard. And Morrowind is not advanced enough to be able to use it as a bargaining point. And suddenly remembering 100+years old science-y memories would be strange (I can't even remember certain 10 yr old ones!) He can't really offer anything to Celestia at the moment.
-edit-
I Just remembered there were Dwemer ruins and they played a large part in the game, but the thing with them is that nobody can recreate them any more, so they wouldn't work either.
Also after quickly skimming through the first chapter of Asylum, Ares had his armor and weapon taken away from him (later got it back), yet the Nerevarine have an RPG inventory (read: hammerspace) so he would have enough backup to just hack his way back to his confiscated items.
--
For all intents and purposes I do want to see Ares' story, but I find this one too fun to just watch it getting rewritten.

7100501 There was never an offer from Ares, at least not one that was made while he was in her custody. It was that he could have helped, not that he offered to. At that point, he would have been wonderfully insane, and thus pronounced as "touched by Discord". No one would want to be within ten miles of him.

As for getting his shit taken, think of this. If you were to take someone's stuff while it was 'equipped, then they unequip then re-equip it, would it show back up on them? that's what I think would happen. It's just a wonderful issue with someone who's understanding and impact on physics is different from your own. Not only that, Ares could likely have been a serious powerhouse for Equestria as it was developing, being an immortal warrior and general problem solver.

7103157 I kinda meant that he has spares in his inventory, so if ponies take his arm/armor, he can just equip a different set.
Y'know, I only want to prove that rewriting this story would be too much of a hassle and you would be better off making a different one. An I would also like to see the Nerevarine driving the equestrians nuts instead of building a city. Oblivious immortal sheanigans are fun.
Also, in here the armor changed to fit his form, while Ares' were patchy and loose.

There was never an offer from Ares

From Asylum's description:

He asked for little, so very little for what he offered.

Albeit, yes I know it can mean Celestia decided he's offering things no matter his opinion, but still.
