Digital Ghost

I keep changing this thing, yet I haven't changed my avatar since I signed up... Guess that says a lot about me, huh?

This story is a sequel to Proud Mother of a... Changeling?

After Twilight receives a letter saying that Queen Chrysalis is the guest of honor in the Crystal Empire's First Grand Banquet, she becomes suspicious and attends in order to thwart any plans the changelings may be hatching.

Chapters (5)
Comments ( 92 )

Disaster, laughter at the end and a whole slew of mishaps and dastardly deeds all in the bulk of it.
Yeah, Chrysalis is going to spam through it.

Ooo, dis gonna be good! Looking forward to more.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.

Why do I see Twilight and her friends starting a war before learning the truth? Or perhaps just plain refusing to believe the truth when it comes?

4357471 They're afraid that Chrysalis is up to no good, and that she was somehow behind the banquet. But really, would you trust someone so easily when they tried to ruin your brother's wedding by impersonating the bride and laid the city under siege?

4357580
I likely wouldn't trust them, but I wouldn't actively antagonize them.

4357623 Well, we've seen how they reacted to Discord, and the situation when they met complicated things. Both parties responded negatively, and soon we got the spark. Now to find the gas can.

4357671
Now that I think about it, I wonder if they'd have given Luna a chance if she had directly opposed them, or didn't change her form when her dark powers were taken away, or at the very least been even slightly resentful. They seem to have quite the double standard involving redemption, except for Fluttershy, that is. Fluttershy will save the day! I am calling it!

And, Chrysalis isn't really making a very good second impression either, is she?

Granted most Equestrians are species supremists to a rather large degree but Chrissie didn't help matters at the wedding and she as heck isn't helping anything/ one now. Of course with the way Chrissie acted in this chapter Twilight and the rest were more diplomtic than I would have been, I would have ground Chrissie in to bug paste

4357753 :yay:

4357871 Nope, not at all.

4359222 Yikes. Chrissie does not like the sound of that at all

Hmm, my head cannon is the other way around. But, sure let's see where this goes.

I got to say I am really liking this head canon :3)
:derpyderp1:

4402237 Glad I managed to get your interest :pinkiehappy:

4402324 Thank you :rainbowkiss:

She had a relationship with SOmbra!!!

"Hey, kids! What time is it?" :ajsmug:
"EXPOSITION TIME!!!" :pinkiehappy:

Okay, now that that joke is out of my system...

>>Alert! Plot Hole Detected!<<

The way it was explained in your first story, it seemed like being a changeling was a genetic disorder. Now it seems like you're saying it was caused by being too close to Crystal Heart upon activation. If that's the case, why didn't any Crystal Ponies turn into changelings when it activated near the end of the Season 3 opener? Did I miss something, or was it not explained well? Either one would've been good fanon if it wasn't for the plot hole.

On the positive side, I must commend you on Chrysalis's treatment of Twilight and her friends. Fanfic writers often forget or ignore that, regardless of her motivations, Queen Chrysalis is an arrogant jerk.

4423147 Yeah, I noticed that, but worry not, we're just half way through Chrysalis' story :raritywink:

You can thank fireflutterpony for reminding me of her attitude. (Shout out!)

Well... Uh... She sure moved on waiting for about a thousand years for the heart...
But there is one thing missing from this... How does she feel now knowing Sombre, whether still the good or the evil side, is no more and no chance of getting back?

4439938 Crushed at the loss, but relieved to know Sombra can finally rest. I could have sworn I had written or at least had implied it somewhere, but I guess it was all in my head. :facehoof:

I like how you back story of both Queen Chrysalis and "King" Sombra (EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW very little of Sombra himself than what we know a canon and even that is very small :ajbemused: )

4439998 Burnasius dose have a point there but as a reader/ writer I don't see where that info would be put (unless you re-word a few moments)

4440145 I agree, we need a bit more info on Sombra than just him being stamped as a generic evil king whose one purpose is to serve as the antagonist.

And yeah, I think I can change the part at the end to show Vigil's point of view of him seeing Chrysalis lost in her own little world of memories. I'll add that in :pinkiehappy:

Yeah but what about her behavior on wedding ? All that gloating and taunting ?

4440665 I'll leave that to be open for interpretation. But personally, I believe the power got to her head.

And I'm sure someone will ask this eventually, so I'd rather say it now. Celestia didn't show any recognition for Chrysalis because 1.) the safety of her pony followers had to be put first, 2.) even if Chrysalis was a friend back a thousand years ago, Celestia doesn't take kindly to invasions of any kind, and 3.) it would raise quite a few difficult questions like why are there little to no documentation about changelings.

And Luna's absence? Celestia must have sent her away on purpose to avoid or at least delay a scenario similar to point number 3.

good story, but there one thing i dont understand about changelings...
how the fuck do they feed on love?
i mean we all know emotions are a Product of Chemicals in the brain or something like that so how do changelings feed on said emotions without cracking someones skull open and feeding on their brain?...
if magic is somehow involved then why does everyone seem to freak out when they hear about changeling dietary?
i mean its not like you can run out of the stuff or anything.

4447027 In the MLPverse, maybe you could run out of love. There's also the possibility that the way the changelings feed might affect the pony they're feed off of in a negative way. Or maybe the ponies just think that after seeing Armor, who knows.

Basically, my guess would be as good as yours. But if you read the comics where Chrysalis kidnapped the CMC and invaded ponyville, then we have some semi-canon to work with. (Semi-canon since I'm not sure if that was how changelings truly fed, or if it was just the author's head canon)

If you haven't read it, they basically suck the life out of their prey. :applecry:

For my head canon on the effects of changeling feeding is similar to the comics, albeit a bit less severe.

As for how they feed, my take on that is this: The magic of love sustains their forms since love magic was responsible for turning them into changelings in the first place. This implies that their bodies are more, eh, magical than other creatures, which allows them to shapeshift.

4449418 mmh makes sense i suppose...
hehe... Darwin whould be eating his own beard if he ever knew about changelings...

That was fun. Looking forward to more.

This story, good sir, is brilliant. Thank you so much for writing it. It was a great pleasure to read a story based on such a masterpiece idea.

4465560 I'm flattered you think so :twilightblush:

I so wanted to call them "Mann|equines|", get it? No? How about Equinnequins?

I am fairly certain that ponyquins (probably misspelled) is one of the more common ones.

4485504 Where's the facehoof emote? Dang, how did I miss that? Hoooooowwwww?! :raritycry:

*Alondro peers from the shadows of the crystal berry bushes* Cherngelerngs... *slinks back into the all-concealing shadows*

This really does seam like such a wonderful story... I really do enjoy it! I kinda hope that Siren hooks up with one of the mane six... In the beginning I was thinking AJ and her would make an awesome pare...

Anyway....

Story is adorable and knollageable! I love it, please write more... :pinkiehappy:

Cue Chrysalis trying to make a threesome relationship with Cadence and Shining.

4486277 There's enough of those fics out there as it is.

4486293
But then your set-up implies it is possible. :rainbowlaugh:

4485652 :rainbowderp: Ooooookay......

4486018 There's no impossibility for that. :pinkiehappy:

4486359 Not sure if I can pull that off very well though. I've never been good in romance stories, so I guess I'll leave that for the experts. :twilightblush:

4424935
4423147
I know she isn't the nicest, but if her pride is more important to her then her people, then why is she even there? Isn't the whole point of going there to play nice with the ponies and get her changelings home? Attacking VIPs is counter productive to her end goal.
Then again she hasn't shown to be the brightest.

4487436 *Alondro prepares the suicide bug-bomb* :pinkiecrazy:

4357871 That would be due to her being a Class-A level bug bitch. :trollestia:

Uhm... still not sure how this Chrysalis ends up as an invading monster who looks down on ponies as nothing but food.. given that she WAS once a pony.

I mean, you could go the X-men route and make her Magneto, feeling all superior to ponies as the next stage of pony evolution or something, and then be persecuted and stuff and turn flat-out evil and anti-pony... but then this sudden sympathetic attitude one small chapter in feels horribly out of place.

>>>"I knew Starswirl, yes. He, Celestia, Luna, and the rest of the Equestrian High Council were frequent guests of the king. They were the only ponies outside the empire who knew about changelings. >>>

WHAAAAAAA???!!!!

Wait wait waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait! If Celly knew about da cherngelengs all along, how did she not suspect a thing when Cadance started acting weird? How did she not instantly recognize Chrysalis at the wedding? I mean, that's not exactly a face you forget!

>>>Chrysalis regretfully stared at the ceiling. "I didn't want any of the younglings to..>>>

*Alondo covers his eyes and screams in agony!* WAAAUUUGGHHH!!! STAR WARS PREQUEL TERMINOLOGY!!! IT BURNS USSSSSSS!!! :pinkiecrazy:

4490726 That would be the case, but to her, she was being harassed, so she had the right to defend herself. Probably not the brightest thing, but that what happens when you have to be deceitful; tactfulness isn't there when she's introduced to situations where she isn't trying to get love.

4491197 Don't you dare! I just cleaned this room!

4491245 It's was life or death for them, so either they invaded, or starved. Besides, if they did the alternative, which was to blend in and gain the love through disguises, wouldn't ponies be suspicious when some ten thousand or so new faces suddenly appeared? (Imagine the crowding problems. It'd be like in the Stronghold games where you have a ton of troops and you suddenly decide to disband them, turning them into hungry peasants. The popularity drop caused by overcrowding was insane.)

A little privacy can show one's kinder or crueler side, depending on the person/pony. Chrysalis just happens to be the former type.

4491266 She doesn't know Cadence that well. :trollestia:
Also:

And I'm sure someone will ask this eventually, so I'd rather say it now. Celestia didn't show any recognition for Chrysalis because 1.) the safety of her pony followers had to be put first, 2.) even if Chrysalis was a friend back a thousand years ago, Celestia doesn't take kindly to invasions of any kind, and 3.) it would raise quite a few difficult questions like why are there little to no documentation about changelings.

So really, she recognized Chrysalis, but didn't show it. Plus, Chrysalis was gone for a thousand years, so Celestia thought that she was taken along with the rest of the Crystal Empire.

4491274 They used that in Star Wars? Huh, I didn't know that. I typed that with "young changelings" in mind.

4492427 I'm still finding this awkward.

Chrysalis mood-swings radically in the story, from arrogant twat to tearily repentent in barely the space of a single typical chapter-length.

And the 'facts' you mention really need to be brought out IN THE NARRATIVE to make sense. If the story doesn't answer the basic questions raised by this radically different alternate history, then it's difficult to believe in.

4495983 Most of the 'facts' are implied already, except for Celestia's reasons, but since she can't be there to elaborate, the best the characters could get to an explanation would be to guess.

4504666 Ikr, it's like the god of ideas blessed me herself! :raritystarry:
