It all began on a shopping trip with her cousin, Sunset Shimmer. Cadence saw through the illusionary magic of a young Chrysalis; who was only hunting for love-based emotions from memories. This simple moment set in motion a chain of events, that neither foresaw but both would never forget.

Starlight Glimmer is the best thing to ever happen to me. She's by my side through thick and thin, and whatever hardships we face, we always face them together. She's an amazing mare and an amazing friend, one who inspires me to be the best Trixie I can be. And in turn, I push her to believe in herself as much as she believes in me. Twilight will never hear me say this, but she's right, friendship absolutely can be magic.

But I want more than just friendship, than being besties. I know it's crazy—she's leagues above me! But I don't care. Tonight, I tell her the truth. Tonight, I'm going to say the three most terrifying words in the Equish language.

This is my first serious(ish) story in several years, and I'd like to thank Ice Star for helping with the cover; my Google Docs prereaders who I no longer remember the fandom names of because I procrastinated on editing this for almost two years: Rep Hex, –P, Min, Jeremy, yay force, Lightning Flash, and anonymous; and also Aragon for letting me bounce ideas off of him. Sunset Shimmer takes the mantle of her old master Sir Sunburst Starwatcher in a fit of desperation. Now, having had a taste of the glory and victory that has so long been out of reach, she throws herself into a delicate balance between fighting her way to riches and the noose that awaits if she is discovered.

And the lie she and her friends are trying to keep is getting harder and harder to maintain. Oh, and of course, there's the maiden fair who seems determined to get the truth of the matter.
*Based loosely on A Knight's Tale, you do not need to have seen the movie. This will have substantial differences.

However, Peter Parker has his own issues, as his past resurfaces in the forms of his former principal, Abacus Cinch, and intellectual arch-rival, Twilight Sparkle. To make matters worse, magic seems to be running amok during the competition, and Sunset Shimmer finds herself amidst an existential crisis as she attempts to find her place in the world.
