Celestia sits down for morning tea. That much is regular and calming and a good way to greet the day. She looks across at her darker self, Daybreaker. It would perhaps not be as calming as she had hoped.

She wanted peace. She wanted diplomacy. She wanted harmony and friendship.

She got war.

With the armies of the Changeling Lands marching through Equestria, overwhelming any and all resistance they encounter, Princess Celestia has had to resort to increasingly drastic measures to save her country and the ponies that live in it. But while her sister leads the armies from the front and her ponies fight and die in the name of princesses and country, Celestia feels useless and inadequate in Canterlot. After all, she was supposed to protect her precious little ponies. How had she failed them so badly?

Those doubts and worries gradually gnaw away at her, day after day and month after month. Until one day, she reaches a tipping point, the point of no return:

She will save Equestria, no matter what it takes.

With the immense power gained with her new role as Equestria's sole princess, Twilight Sparkle has also received the ability of foresight Celestia had held for so long. However, Princess Twilight's power to see into the future is far stronger than Celestia's ever was. She has seen visions of the world over a thousand years into the future, where the pony world of Equestria has lost its magic. Friendship and Harmony have been replaced by paranoia and mistrust, and Ponies now live separated by species. Everything she and her friends had worked for would inevitably be eroded away, erased, destroyed, and made futile. This knowledge rocked Princess Twilight to her core. The idea that everything she had ever worked would be rendered meaningless was almost too painful to bear. And so, in her grief, she came to a decision.

If she could not change the future, she would kill it.

On a road not taken...
Two young women meet. Both with extraordinary powers. Both with extraordinary grudges.
Between the two of them, nothing can stand in their way.
Not even each other.

My main entry for \o/ Scampy's SunFlower Shipping Contest \o/. Thought I'd take the prompt in a different direction.

Sunset Shimmer was too late. Before she could convince Wallflower Blush to release her friend's memories, they were lost forever. As she confronts Wallflower, and takes the Memory Stone for herself, she contemplates what she must do... and realizes, maybe she's not worth being remembered.

And now it's time for Wallflower to stop her from making a horrible mistake.

Celestia has lived for a long time so it only makes sense that she would have a secret organization as a last resort for multiple circumstances.
