The movie appears to be a significant time into the future. From what we have seen the Mane 6 are still idolized (if the MC is anything to go by). And like... I kinda like the idea of the three tribes being hostile towards one another and then this small group of ponies fight to bring back "the Equestria that used to be?"
Kinda compelling plot imo.

Hasbro chose to make G5 into a sequel because the world of G4 was far grander than the worlds of G1-3. It's hard to make a world for a story, but for a show about colorful horses meant for little girls, you're allowed to make it very simple. Which is why the first three generations of MLP had an easier time with reboots.
Lauren Faust however, created the complex world of Equestria for G4. And as the show went on, Equestria became even more complex. The more complex it got, the harder it became to let go. Had G4 ended in Season 3, G5 might've been a reboot. But that's just my opinion.

I did; I'm not saying I agree with the plan, I'm saying that's not the sort of plan a person should enact unless they're 100% sure.
With the Bell boosting that up to 110%, even those two shouldn't have shaken her resolve enough to stop her.

Wow Ok then so Twilight basically use grogar bell and took some of the chaos Magic from Discord to travel into the future and when she got there she basically wanted to obliterate this future because she believes that this is beyond saving but then there was a earth pony name Sunny and she was asking why she here and why is she doing this apparently Twilight was ranting about that all the powers that she has to bring peace to Equestria and and all the sacrifices she done and even her friends did for this world feeling that everything they done was nothing so she wanted to destroy this but Sunny wants to tell her there is another way to save this future but she refused to listen so she had to confront her then Twilight shot her magic at her thinking she made a mistake of hurting her but in the nick of time another pony named Izzy save Sunny's life in Twilight was pretty surprised to see a unicorn being friends with an earth pony and does magic around them but she still feels like it's not enough so she was going to continue on destroying this world but she couldn't she didn't want to become a killer of this world but somehow the two ponies hugged her and despite everything they forgave her and they still want to make a better way for the future even if it looks bleak there's always another way to save it and Twilight trust these two that they can make a difference

In the last episode of G4, Hasbro closed the book, the G4 is over and time passes then first then they would die with all the other characters and then? I liked the G4 but sooner or later things end, they don't last forever and friendship is the same, some friendships end and others start then who knows maybe there was a really strong villain that others didn't succeed to defeat that now friendship and magic has disappeared then considering that in the last chapter as adults they are "retired" it is not up to them to continue to protect friendship, future generations must protect it as the tree said to the young six
I'll say, it was a surprise to see that everything Twilight and her friends worked so hard for was ultimately for naught. Though, I imagine time had something to do with it. One thousand years is a long time, time for friendships to fade, alliances to break, wars to be waged, good and bad choices to be made. Stuff like that. The Roman Empire eventually fell, didn't it?
Why Twilight was not there to guide Equestria during that time, the same way Celestia did, that's a mystery. But I have one theory. Twilight was born mortal, thus she had mortal principles. How do you think someone gifted the power of immortality would handle everyone they cared about dying around them, their friends and family crumbling to dust while she alone remained? Twilight likely learned the price of immortality, and it wasn't one she could pay. Driven mad by grief, she likely took her own life or disappeared off the face of the map, leaving Equestria to fend for itself. As for why Celestia and the other alicorns didn't return to clean up the mess, I do not know.
There are so many questions with few answers. I don't think we'll ever get a straight answer to what happened. I think the only plausible answer we have is that time moved forward and the winds of change took their course.
This is a great story, it portrays Twilight in a similar way to the Doctor in "The Waters of Mars".
They both fight for peace, they both fight for life, but it seems that the universe itself is fighting against them. What Twilight is doing here sounds very much like the "Time Lord Victorious" that the Doctor was turning into in that episode.
The Doctor was brought to his senses by Captain Adelaide Brooke killing herself to maintain the timeline. Twilight was brought to her senses by Sunny and Izzy's friendship (or more).
Just wait another 3000 years and they'll be even more segregated in their own space habitats with their own Dyson sphere.
