Second chances, some deserve them, some need them, some desperately want them, others can never have them. For Twilight Sparkle, it's all she wants. A thousand years ago she made a mistake, a mistake that changed everything and now she lives with it everyday. She would give anything to have the chance to try again, to undo what she did. On this anniversary of her biggest mistake Twilight might just have that second chance to make everything right again but, is she willing to pay the price.

I have heard ponies say that living so long would be a curse. That it is a burden. That it can break a pony's mind. There is some truth to that. It can be hard to know that you'll always be left behind as others pass on. However, that is not the whole truth, I am also blessed. On a dark night filled with even darker magics, an insane cult attempts to give Nightmare Moon a body and life of her own, utterly separate from Princess Luna. But, when the spell is interrupted by Celestia, something unexpected is created.

Five long years ago, according to Twilight's math, she entered a plane called the Dark Void, a place meant only for the deceased. Each day, she scoured through the multiple books of her dream library, trying her hardest to find anything related to this realm of existence.

Sadly, none of her books have any mention of the place, so she begins to feel that escape is ultimately impossible. Accepting that she is stuck there, she goes to sleep and attempts to dream herself away from this world that she put herself in. For days on end she just sleeps her days away, hoping that one of her dreams will allow her to be free from this realm.

Only some of the dreams show a hint of sunlight; brilliance from somewhere out in the Dark Void.

On secret assignment from Princess Celestia herself, Twilight investigates a powerful magical artifact for clues to the mystery of Luna's transformation in the evil Nightmare Moon. Incautious use of the artifact sends Twilight hurtling back in time. Can Twilight discover what caused Luna's transformation? And will she ever make it home again?
