As a little filly taking a high-stakes entrance exam at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, Twilight Sparkle cracked under the pressure.

Ever since that day, she's had an imaginary friend named "Spike."

Twilight Sparkle sits on her throne, raising the moon yet again after tens of thousands of times. It's been over a thousand years since her best friends passed, and she regrets becoming an immortal alicorn that cannot seem to pass on naturally like the rest of them.

But when she has the opportunity to bring them back, will Twilight take the risks to make it so, even if it means sacrificing her own morals and making deals with those who she should never associate with?

This story was originally written for Scattered Pages: Tales from the Book of All Stories, a convention-exclusive book that was published for "Ponyville Ciderfest 2023: An Interactive Storytelling Adventure!"

You and Twilight have been best friends for the longest time. It was surprising, considering that a literal Princess would ever consider you, the social outcast that you are, a friend. But for that, you were grateful. And you have never been happier than when you were with her, and vice versa.

One afternoon, Twilight approaches you looking all nervous and flustered. Naturally, as her best friend, you want to help in any way you can.

In theory, you and Twilight didn't make sense. A strong, intelligent, and wise mare like her paired with an awkward, dorky, and eccentric human like you... It was almost too good to be true, and yet it was. You and Twilight were the best of friends, until you found out about a week ago that she had romantic feelings for you.

Would it even work out? Could things between you two really escalate into something... more?

A dancer becomes more lithe. Legs toned and steps light. A boxer might become a solid wall. Some professions change us in some way, some more obvious than others.

When they do, you can feel like you've lost control of yourself, your future, and the expectations of those around you.

Twilight's a powerful unicorn. Her practice and study in spell and the magic arts has molded her body into one more capable in that art. She never expected following her passion would have some obvious consequences.

She does not handle it well.

Story contains implied self harm.

Friends aware of her problem help with her immediate needs, but they find themselves feeling helpless for something more long term. Rarity and Fluttershy contemplate Twilight's more invisible needs in this story.

Author's Note: I wrote this years ago.
But I never published it until today. Many reasons for that, many of them related to poor mental health and low self worth. The only way I could publish this now is by just submitting it without a final reading. Please keep in mind this is myself from a time five years or more ago.

I commissioned artwork for it from a friend, but they ended up dropping off the map before they finished it. I contemplated not sharing it in it's unfinished state. I decided that, much like the story, it's better to be seen than to be squirreled away into obscurity.

Twilight the dragon has never really felt at home in the Dragon Lands. Unlike most dragons, she values intelligence, and is seen as a pariah for it. But things change when she comes across a purple pony named Spike, who has come to the dragon lands on a "Friendship Mission."
But he must be in the wrong place. After all, dragons don't do friendship.

In Equestria, when it rains it pours. A recent barrage of threats has included an evil queen from the moon, an invasion of shapeshifting bugs, and even a rampaging god of chaos.

Some days, Twilight Sparkle wishes there was an easy fix for it all. Some sort of rainbow laser that could solve any conflict. But wishful fantasizing doesn't keep ponies protected; hooves on the ground do.

Only guards like Twilight can keep Ponyville safe. Still, she won’t say no if a few locals offer help...

This is an entry in the Snippet Series, an anthology of old oneshots that I (and my good buddy Str8aura) wrote based around interesting pics I found. New ones will be posted every other Thursday for the foreseeable future.
