Octavia Philharmonica is one of many who are trying to make it in life, and living in one of the nation's busiest cities doesn't make it any easier. She just got laid off of her job, and bussing tables at her friend's cafe part-time isn't doing much to pay the bills, so Octavia falls to her last resort - she'll use her talent of music to offer lessons for those who are willing to learn the craft.

However, when a bold, crazy disk jockey obsessed with rock-n-roll signs up, everything turns upside down.

It's anything but a traditional story when Vinyl Scratch meets Octavia and falls in love with the colt-loving grey mare. Vinyl can't explain it, but there is something about Octavia that has sucked her into love's arms. But with Vinyl's jealous ex in the picture, she can barely find time to think straight. Can Vinyl find the will to fight through an overbearing ex and somehow win Octavia's heart? Or will it all crash and burn around her?

It was a secret no-strings-attached relationship, that’s all. A few flings here and there, but that was it… and then, Rarity got a job opportunity that changed everything. She had moved to Canterlot to pursue her career, and time flew by. Now, five years have passed, and she’s lost contact of her Ponyville friends. Upon returning to her hometown, she realizes that everypony has changed in one way or another.

And out of all the news, what she didn’t expect was for Applejack to be a single mother to a four-year-old daughter. Now, that isn’t so much a bombshell on it’s own, but what puzzles Rarity the most is how sensitive her friend is regarding the little filly’s paternity.

After all, that’s what friends are for, aren’t they? To worry about one another?

Artists suffer from many things, one of which is a mental block that disrupts and makes them second guess their work. For Octavia, she starts developing such music blocks that causes her to quickly fall into depression and turn to cigarettes and wine to ease her pain. Sometimes though, all it really takes is a friend to hear out ones problems. Thankfully, Octavia is fortunate to have such a friend and when her housemate, Vinyl checks up on her, she happily listens to Octavia's frustrations.

This story is a sequel to Syncopation

Vinyl Scratch and Octavia Philharmonica. There's nopony in all of Equestria that doesn't know these names. They are the pinnacles of their genres and the peaks of every genre in between, but it wasn't always this way.

When they first met, Octavia was fresh out of the Canterlot Conservatory and Vinyl was the only member of Syncopated Records, a new music company created by Fancy Pants and his wife Fleur de Lis. They have grown since then, overcome trials both as individuals and as a company, but Fancy Pants still has greater plans for his company. Plans to expand, to become bigger names, to be known not only in Canterlot, but in all of Equestria! In order to do this, the musicians of Syncopated Records, Vinyl, Octavia, Harpo Parish Nadermane, and Lyra Heartstrings will travel through the princessdom, playing their songs and trying to make their own mark in music.

But it will be difficult. They'll have to be more than a company and more than a music group. They'll have to work together, getting used to their off-beat attitudes until they can work as one.

Syncopation must meet with Synchronization.

Octavia and Vinyl couldn't be more different. Sure, they both like jazz(-ish), but that's about all they have in common. After one really bad first impression, can these two stand to be around each other long enough to recognize that they're not that different? And that they're both looking for the same thing?

Not if they have anything to say about it. Goodbye, security deposits.

What you love doing or the one you love doing it with? Vinyl and Octavia have composed some of the most wonderful symphonies together but lately, the DJ's traveling has produced some sour notes. When the opportunity to leave again comes, will Vinyl choose to stay with what she loves doing or the one she loves doing it with?

Octavia and Harmonia Philharmonica were on their way to Manehattan, ready to fulfill their duty as granddaughters and visit Nana. Vinyl Scratch and her brother Long Play were traveling back home from a concert in Canterlot, the first that Vinyl had ever attended. Pure serendipity facilitated these pairs' first meeting.

Octavia Melody is a dreamer. Her mind takes her places, places that she's always wanted to be. Unfortunately, her body doesn't follow. She lives a normal life, seeing new sights through the postcards and letters that Harpo Parish Nadermane sends as he travels the world, picking new sounds for his compositions. In fact, Harpo just finished a piece! Of course, he's currently on the other side of the world, but that's not a problem. He'll just send the music to Octavia.
