A strange storm transports Equestria and the Crystal Empire to Earth, less than four days before Germany would have invaded Poland and World War II would have begun. Unfortunately, during negotiations with world leaders, an evil entity breaks free of its prison and causes the war, and Equestria is drawn into it. How will they survive this?

Takes place just under two months after the two opening episodes of Season 3. Events diverge from there.

Food for thought, folks. I wrote this story on my own time and Obab later added extra material, three years later, when she converted the story into her audio production. She did not participate in the original production (if that was not clear already). If you read the story below you'll see the original, untampered text!

The decline into darkness had been easy enough... but when a high ranking Rainbow Factory employee begins to loose faith in the program and attempts to leave, things get out of hoof.

Having lived the majority of his life in the twisted building known as the Rainbow Factory-climbing up the brutal ladder and eventually becoming an Orchestrator-a lone colt finds the atrocity's he's committed in his past coming back to haunt him in his waking hours.

Driven by the need to return to normal society and the thought of redemption, he devises a risky plan that will ultimately decide the very fate of the Rainbow Factory as it's come to be known.

Through a sudden surge in technical inventions stemming from the ability to hold and store magical energy, the ponies of Equestria find themselves no longer dependent on the princesses to rule and protect them. The Canterlot Observatory houses the ability to raise the sun and moon, and new weaponry has given the ponies the strength needed to take matters into their own hooves.

The age of "might makes right" is now an old shadow of the setting sun. And with their reign coming to a close, the princesses must make a wise decision fast as their enemies close in. With the political pressure on them, the fellowship of Twilight's friends is breaking, and it could be that a Sonic Rainboom that tied them together in the beginning will now be a signal for the end.

This is the prequel to the unfolding events of the three-part story series Princess.

Deep in the Royal Library is a book. A terrible book that is said to send whoever reads it mad. A book so dangerous that it has to be hidden away and secured with chains to prevent it from ever being opened.

A book which has just been accidently checked out by Spike on behalf of Twilight Sparkle.

The Star In Yellow is rising once more, and only Rainbow Dash and Spike can save Twilight before it's too late. Ideas live forever. Ponies do not.

This fic is loosely inspired by the 19th century story 'The King In Yellow'.

Life. What is life? Is it the role of the cosmic die, entropy at its finest; Order into chaos? Might it be the universe’s very own form of cancer, spreading everywhere due to a glitch in the makeup of reality itself? Or even the result of a God, spending endless eternity’s alone and creating something, anything to make this dismal existence a bit less dull?

My creators saw life as a challenge to overcome, something to surpass. To succeed life is to succeed creation itself, and in doing so, to transcend the boundaries of mortality. Because if you can create something better than life, what are you but a God?

For weeks, months even the Storm King had promised her that this very day would be the last one of Equestria and its princesses. He promised Tempest power, even agreed to restore her horn.

But that was not the reason she joined the Storm King. The scars of her past were too deep. They couldn’t ever be removed or undone. The sorrow and loneliness of her past had rapidly transformed into anger and bitterness.

No, she wasn’t there for the spoils that the Storm King offered her. She was there to take revenge on the very thing that scarred her and her life forever.

Friendship would be destroyed, Equestria shattered, and its ponies broken. Tempest Shadow would triumph at last.

A somewhat alternate and darker backstory for Tempest than in the comics. If you’ve read the movie prequel comics, keep in mind that they do not apply to this story.
