Caramel, Braeburn, and the Elements of Harmony had long abandoned any hope of finding love in their lives. Granted, a few had their dreams of a certain somepony, but that's all they were to them: dreams. That is until Winter Wrap-Up, where Caramel's clumsiness sets off a chain of events that could lead either to the betterment of everypony or to a schism between the Elements. Visions, reappearances, secrets, and histories attack ten ponies who begin to feel love's gentle warmth. Before all is told, each will have to battle his or her demons to find love waiting on the other side.

In Equestria, the Earth Ponies and Unicorns use the land, and the Pegasi soar through the sky! So who occupies the sea? Enter Syren, a young mare who belongs to the equine species of (The) Capricore. Follow her as she lives her life in the abyss of the ocean, being told that the land Equestrians won't welcome her species. And she believes it, until she meets a meek, animal-loving Pegasus.

She also learns she has matured farther as a changeling and now must obtain the love she feeds on directly from somepony, just like her changeling siblings. There's just one problem. One day, as the Mane 6 and Spike are having a nice day out, a strange cloud appears to them from beyond the horizon. This cloud starts to cause immense chaos with its magical lightning bolts, with the chaos looking similar to the kind Discord had created before. After defeating the cloud, Twilight starts to act strangely, and the next day, Twilight's body parts start to change into different animal parts! Not knowing what to do, Twilight and her friends race to talk with Princess Celestia about this, with Twilight changing more and more with the more chaos she causes...

Twilight Sparkle prides herself on her knowledge, but some things simply defy explanation. Seeking knowledge on her most mysterious of enemies, Discord, she turns to the one being she never thought to ask: Discord himself. When Discord directs her to a book detailing the time he ruled Equestria, will Twilight be able to resist reading it?
