Reading “My Domestic Equestria” first will help get into the mindset of this one, but it isn’t necessary to understand it.

He had to look down to see her. A pony, a creature no bigger than a goat, stood on his doorstep. Her pale blue fur and ragged, blood-red mane couldn’t have looked more out of place in a town of goats and minotaurs. Kev stared at her, wondering what to do. This story is a sequel to Salting Snails

When Equestria's most famous detective, Basil Bones, comes to Ponyville, it seems like everypony has a case for him to solve. His results are impressive, but his methods are questionable. It's up to the brilliant mind of Twilight Sparkle to get to the bottom of this, accompanied as always by her loyal—and bored—assistant and girlfriend Rainbow Dash.

The fourth story in the Twilight Holmes continuity, following It's Elementary, My Dear Rainbow, TH: Sabotage After Sunset, and Salting Snails. Reading the previous stories is not required to enjoy The Mystery of Basil Bones.

Applejack realizes one morning that Rainbow Dash has apparently moved in with her. This discovery surprises Dash more than a little, too, and sets off a chain of events neither could have imagined.

The original minific version of this story came in fifth in the Dec. 2015 Writeoff Association contest, "Things Left Unsaid." And the full, three-chapter-and-an-epilogue version won 3rd place in The Fourth AppleDash Contest: A Little Twist of Lemon using the categories "A Life-Changing Event" and "An Important or Memorable Date."

Rainbow Dash and Applejack have been dating for well over four months. In all that time, the pegasus has been content with whatever Applejack wants to do to her in bed. However, she soon discovers that something is missing. She needs to tell Applejack, but... she's worried. What if her marefriend will see her in a different light?
