Ponyville, by all means, has never been a town without incident. Somewhere within it, something was always going wrong somehow. However, for so many different things to go wrong so close together...it means things are more wrong than usual. And Twilight has more to do with it than even she realizes...

We all wear a mask called composure, beneath which hides a heart that twists with guilt and hidden feelings. Regal as she is, Princess Celestia is no exception. What might be revealed should circumstances cause this mask to slip - or break?

As the Yearly Finale approaches, Twilight becomes informed that Princess Celestia is sick and has requested her to help Princess Luna in the rising of the new year's first Sun, which happens to be one of the biggest events in Equestria. Twilight is hesitant to go, because she wants to spend her first Yearly Finale celebration with her friends, but because of her friends' encouragement and support, she ends up deciding to help the princesses.

In order to help, however, Twilight must tap into a very special type of magic she discovers she has...

Many years after sending her beloved protege to Ponyville, unease sits heavily on Princess Celestia's heart as her relationship with Twilight Sparkle seems to have cooled despite all they've accomplished together. After failing to stop Nightmare Moon in the ancient castle of the pony sisters, Twilight Sparkle is left with a scar that will permanently change the rest of her natural born life. As Twilight recovers from her ordeal, she finds that she is left with a difficult choice. Either live her life as a lie or sacrifice her innocence to protect the ones she loves. The path before her is set and she must now walk it alone. The sands of time continues ever onward, with everyone already trapped in its muddy depths. The sun will rise and the sun will fall. Waiting for its call, Death awaits for all.

I just put the two together

Twilight Sparkle is, of course, a genius. Her insatiable love for books has made her a walking encyclopedia of all things magic. But you can't become truly great in academia just by reading books; Albert Einstein didn't invent the special theory of relativity by reading about it in high school. Well, Twilight has aspirations of true greatness. Her world is full of mysteries that she won't find the answers to in her library, and she's determined to be the one to solve them. And all the while, a villain wielding a brand of deadly, unknown magic is threatening both her friends and the whole of Equestria. What's a unicorn to do?

Being a genius isn't quite enough. Luckily, Twilight is also a scientist.

This is an old story that takes place in the canon circa season two. It involves a slight re-imagining of Twilight to make her more of a scientist than a science fangirl. This doesn't mean she's no longer a cute nerd; if anything, she's more adorkable than ever.

Twilight Sparkle has been betrayed by Celestia, all her friends brutally killed in front of her eyes after the young unicorn woke up one morning with wings. Celestia had realized that Twilight had been chosen by the Elements of Harmony to replace Luna and herself as the leading force of Equestria, and correctly surmised that the other Elements would have followed shortly after and become a united force the current princesses couldn’t hope to defeat if they chose to contest their position for the throne. Even though Twilight doesn't want to acknowledge her destiny as Equestria's next chosen ruler, the new alicorn cannot let the tyrants she has now seen Celestia and Luna really are remain in power.
Armed with only the Elements of Harmony and her burning rage, Twilight sets out to avenge her friends and free Equestria from Celestia and Luna's tyranny.
The fate of Equestria, as well as the balance of this entire universe, hinges on Twilight's success.
