After the changelings' failed invasion of Canterlot, Twilight tries to soothe some of Ponyville's rampant paranoia by casting a spell to prove there are no imposters hiding in the town. But her spell leaves her in an alien body, facing a mob of angry ponies who just don't believe her when she says she is Twilight Sparkle.

Or, at least, she was Twilight Sparkle, anyway...

An accident involving some untested potions, leaves Applejack and Rainbow Dash transformed beyond recognition and unsure of who they are while in an unfamiliar city.

The changelings are banished, the day is saved! Yet a victory for one must be a defeat for another, and this particular victory has left one changeling stranded in Canterlot, alone and broken. A certain pink party pony is also alone in the Canterlot night, hiding her depression from her friends. She cannot, however, hide her feelings from a changeling. Twilight Sparkle learns that the trust and goodwill of the Princess isn't always a good thing as she's given the trust of an important assignment. When that assignment turns out to be long-term, how will she handle taking care of a filly of her own? How will she handle this strange new filly, who proves to be much more than she appears. As a matter of fact, she seems to be from an entirely separate universe.

Meanwhile, Second Chance has kept only enough of her memories to know that she isn't what she should be. The wonderful world of Equestria has its own dangers, and she seems to have a knack for attracting trouble. The more of her memories return, the more she wishes she could just forget. But you can't forget when all of Equestria depends on you remembering.

I woke up in a steeple at the top of the bell tower with no true memories of my past, only vague recollections of the events that led me there. It wasn't long after leaving the steeple that the thief who stole my identity confronted me in the night.

He laughed at my predicament before posing a challenge to me. The prize of this challenge? Earning my identity and life back.

I had no reason to refuse him, since all he has to do is kill me to keep my identity forever. And yet he wants to play a game with me? I'm not questioning it, though. It's my only way to figure out who I am.

He told me that I'm a resident of the town called Ponyville, specifically one of six ponies. Since he's one of them, he's going to make it difficult for me to determine who he is...who I am. He's laid out some rules and guidelines for me to follow, but I don't trust him on those. He seems like the kind to change the rules as he plays the game.

I don't care. I need to play his game. I have to. Otherwise, he'll be me, and I'll be...nothing.
