Three weeks after the events of Rainbow Rocks, the sirens are desperate. Without their hearts—the jewels that hold their magic—they have no power. They can't sing, can't manipulate people, and worst of all, can't feed. Their only hope is to restore their hearts, and they need to do it soon, before all three of them starve.

The problem is, they're not sure how to fix the hearts. All they've managed to figure out is that they'll need magic to do it, and magic is exactly what they don't have. Scared, starving, and completely out of options, the sirens turn to the last people who would ever want to help them, and the only ones who actually can: the Rainbooms.

The Life of a Wonderbolt can be daring, demanding and dangerous. And yet, even the most elite flyers of Equestria are ponies, in the end.

Spitfire, like the rest of her team, knows that fact only too well. She knows that a Wonderbolt has to not only cope with stress, but with a certain set of routines, as well.

The proud Captain of the Wonderbolts wakes up to just another day of work. There’s nothing she’d rather do.

On the last day of the Wonderbolt Academy session, Spitfire asks Rainbow Dash to see her in her office in order to clear the air. Perhaps if she mentioned some of this stuff earlier, things might've gone in a different direction. Or, as she soon discovers, perhaps not.

At her coronation after-party, Twilight gets a little freaked out at the prospect of growing into her new life, especially one specific aspect of it. She knows better than anyone that talking her problems over with a friend can help tremendously, but she doesn't have many friends with whom she'd be comfortable talking about this particular problem, let alone ones who would really understand what she's going through.

...unless she broadens her definition of "friend."
