When the body of a mare named Roseluck is found, killed in a clearing near her home, Crystalline Eclipse begins to notice her girlfriend retreat back into herself more. Crystalline notices how Lilac seems to want to always be by her side but brushes it off as nothing.
That is until a pony she had been talking to disappears. Lilac had vanished around the same time he was last seen, but Crystalline brushes it off.

Surely it's nothing, right?

Suddenly, her world is thrown into a tailspin as she finds out things she never wanted to know, and realizes that Lilac may be too far gone already.

Princess Celestia decides to prank all of Equestria by summoning Rhett & Link to eat everything.

Applejack begins to notice suspicious behavior in her friend Twilight. As she presses for the truth, she discovers the truth about their world.

They are not alone.

Somewhere, there is another Equestria, another world in which copies of the Element Bearers live different lives, unaware of the destiny that was almost theirs. A world shrouded in darkness.

As these two worlds begin to collide, six strangers will discover that they must inherit the mantles passed down by their alternate selves and become heroes in a world without rainbows.

Apple Bloom is called out to the big barn on Nightmare Night, told she will be learning about a family tradition she did not know even existed. When she arrives, she finds there is more to Sweet Apple Acres than she would ever have expected.

She goes for long trots through the forest, as part of the duty. She observes the world around her, does her best to listen, and learns what she can from knowledge gained in solitude.

There are ways in which Fluttershy knows more about the world than anypony, and one of the first lessons was that the world is not what we make of it.

Ultimately, the world doesn't care.
