It does not quite go as planned.

Inspired (rather obliquely) by the classic British Christmas song A Wombling Merry Christmas.

Pharynx. A changeling. Older brother of King Thorax of the changelings. He went through a dramatic shift in his life, from Queen Chrysalis's reign, to his brother's radical change of the entire swarm. Although he had been reformed as well, he used to be known as someone who hates the new hive, and used to be one of the few remaining renegade changelings in Thorax's rule.

An interviewer by the name of Vision Grey would like to know more about this changeling...

First 'big' fic I've written, so I expect lots of errors. Any kind of constructive and positive criticism is welcome.

Princess Celestia's reign as the sole ruler of Equestria has been a long one, and, for the most part, it has been a good one, as well. Even so, the specter of Nightmare Moon's inevitable return has been weighing on her mind. Although the looming deadline is still years away, Celestia can't seem to keep from dwelling on things to come, to the point where any change from the norm seems like it would be a welcome distraction. All that changes, however, when a young archaeology student arrives in her throne room with distressing news about recent events in Vanhoover. Her sister, it seems, is not the only imminent threat.

Princess Celestia has an assignment for Daring Do, and shares a dark secret. Thorax and his hive are not the first Changelings to reform. But every hive that has done so in the past has been cursed, a dark power blighting their eggs and leading to extinction within a generation.

It must not happen again.

Daring Do's mission? To delve into the lost history of the Changelings and find out who, or what, refuses to allow them peace. Before it's too late.

While returning from a political summit in the dragon lands, King Thorax and Prince Pharynx navigate their way through a dense woods. When gnarled branches and twisting shadows take shape, the brothers find themselves holding their ground against the changeling's former tyrant. But while one brother readies himself for a fight, the other faces his predecessor unarmed, seeking not victory, but answers.

Something unusual happened just before Shining Armor and Cadance left with their new posse for the train station...

This occurs right after Shining Chitin Redux Chapter 40.

Thanks, of course, to Damaged for letting my muse take a hack at writing this sub-chapter into his story.

Chrysalis hedged her bet. She supposed that should she lose, she could still have some fun. Infecting Shining Armor with a poison that would turn him into a changeling was a simple task, but one that would have the poor stallion in a panic as to what his wife would do about it.

Now with 20% more art! Somepony mentioned that there was a severe lack of Shining-turning-into-a-changeling art on the net, so I commissioned the amazing Arcadian Phoenix to run one out quickly.

The ponies of the Crystal Empire have welcomed the Changeling known as Thorax as one of their own, with Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor's blessings. Or at least those who reside within the Crystal Palace have anyway. Outside the walls however, there are some who still need to be convinced of Thorax's good intentions.

Cadence and Shining Armor may have a way for him to do just that.
