1680597 I made it to Disc 3. I had to stop right after the invasion of Alexandria, because of an accident with the disc. I was changing it with something else, dropped it, stumbled... crack. No more disc 3. I eventually bought another copy, but I never found it in me to push through it again, for some reason.

He just wasn't "Turned on" for a long time....Before I forget, Does he still know his magic? Also, is he gonna mention "Grandpa" anytime in the story?

Well, on Day One he mentions something similar to Mist. Since Mist allows for magic use in the FF Universe...yes, he can still use magic.
As for 'Grandpa Quan', it'll come eventually. I figure I'll fit in a mention of just about every character eventually.

1711130 Well, he IS a prototype. As Were(supposedly) The Black Waltzes. The difference between them and Vivi, was they couldn't mind control Vivi, so they didn't use him as a Black Waltz. Seeing where they failed with Vivi, they removed any resistances to mind control for the Mach Ones. Oddly enough, that's where all Lore that ISN'T outright explained in the game ends. I haven't quite beaten the game, but I haven't seen any mention on who/what came up with the Black Mages. They didn't go into the Qu, but that's the whole point of the Qu. I know Kuja figured out how to create the Mach Ones, but who came up with the concept is MY question.
P.S. Remember, this lore was pieced together by many fans that noticed inconsistencies concerning Vivi and tried their best to find something to link them together. The problem with that is, they have the MOST Character Development concerning Vivi, but they don't go into his history too much. Also, When I said he was older than my grandpa, remember, He DIED in this story. I assumed he "Winded Down", and being the Prototype, he was designed to last an extraordinarily long time compared to the Mach Ones. So....yeah, It just makes sense that he'd be old...unless his "Timer" reset....which means he's Immortal, and young again, but not Indestructable....AGH! MY BRAIN!
If this doesn't get featured, i'm going to go on a murderous rampage.

1711328 That makes decent enough sense, I suppose. I always assumed he was created with one of the original batches of Black Mages, and simply fell overboard during his shipping. In my mind, Vivi will always be less than two years old at the end of his life. It really adds to the sentimental value.

If I remember correctly however, Vivi was told by the other Black Mages in FF9 that his lifespan wasn't like theirs. A.K.A probably regular human lifespan.
1750756 Sad as it is, all Black mages are basically golems powered by magic, and they have a very short lifespan. Within the game itself Vivi never dies outside "Game Over"s, but the prospect of it is touched upon often.
