I've seen precisely one (1) other fic on FimFiction that's Omegaverse connected, and it's a clopfic. There's precisely one (1) other MLP Omegaverse fic on AO3, and it's a completely different fic. I have no idea how A/B/O has bypassed MLP/EQG up 'til now, considering how prolific it is in other fandoms. (120-thousand plus fics on AO3, in fandoms from Star Wars to CSI to heckin v-tubers to original fics to Batman to...well, you get the point)

I know for me the Jane Jameson/Half-moon Hollow series was my gateway to this shared-universe/subculture/fandom. While there's nothing explicitly A/B/O about JJ/HMH (there are werewolves with a pack structure and some discussion of scents and the like...though the most recent book does detail the life-mating bite. It's missing the knotting mechanic and the pack roles are limited to a single "alpha couple" and "everyone else"), liking that series led me to other urban fantasy romance novels, which included the Mercy Thompson series, which has a spin off series called (say it with me now) Alpha and Omega. If you read Mercy Thompson, you'll recognize some of the pack structure and social dynamics I'm using in Deviation (no use reinventing the wheel, after all). There are minor differences, like "Alpha" being predominantly a title earned by the strongest wolf in the pack, "beta" being any other wolf that isn't an omega, and the knotting mechanic and the omega MPREG aspect (and I never, ever thought I'd be writing an MPREG anything, it's not my thing, but I guess I live here now...) is missing.

We, unfortunately, live in an age when someone can pull a Karen and get your content pulled completely legally and, even if they're proven to have made false allegations to get that content pulled, face no repercussions. I used to be in favor of only posting to two locations for any fic, but in the wake of fanfiction.net's Purge, the Tumbpocolips, and similar, I'm all about spreading content postings as far and wide as possible to prevent another massive loss of culture like what happened with my beloved Ranma fandom; unless the author's took extra steps to load their works to backup locations around the web or you know exactly where to look on archive.org, lots of fantastic content is lost to history.

That was quite the sucker punch, in that I didn't see it coming, just being dropped suddenly in the middle of a chapter and all, not that it was bad.
Anyway the story's quite interesting so far, this is my first ever encounter with this kind of story though so i got to ask a question;
it wasn't super well explained which is understanding as the characters would have no reason to comment on it in story but what is the biology for them in this case, are they humanoids with some more canine genital characteristics? i think you mentioned werewolves in the description, do they transform in certain circumstances?
You don't need to answer those questions yourselves if you don't want to, but if so can you point me to a wiki or something?
Also my pedantic nerd brain wants to point out that the alpha wolf thing was an improperly studied hypothesis and that alphas don't really exist in wolves, but that doesn't really mater for this story and would make me an ass... wait... shit!

Being serious, nearly all stories for the Omegaverse have some sort of canine physical characteristic being prominently displayed by the Alphas and omegas, though betas are usually used as a "baseline" human body-type to compare by the more...competent writers, which implies that there's zero difference other than vestigial between betas and IRL humans. Very few that I've encountered that weren't specifically about werewolves feature a full fuzzy transformation, but the majority will include things like canine muscular characteristics (tends to be more dense and composed of more fast-twitch muscle fiber than humans), wolf-like eyes, the already mentioned nasal and dental configurations, etc. and leave it at that. A large percentage will also include a limited "transformation" like their canine teeth elongating to out-and-out fangs, eyes changing color and gaining a lucida tapeta, etc.
It's going to be in the next chapter, so this isn't much of a spoiler; In this version of (Omegaverse)EQG, eyes change color, fangs drop, and nails extend, and when in this "mode," the Alpha's speed will increase and their strength jumps up quite a bit. Sunset's changes are going to be basically the same, but with notable physical differences that will draw attention to her alien nature.
I haven't seen a good single source of info, like a wiki, for this, and most "reference guides" have been full of the author's specific headcanons and will either out-and-out contradict other guides, the content of some of the stories, or both. I've been reading stuff that's A/B/O-adjacent and precursors to what is now called "The Omegaverse" since before the Internet was a thing, so I was able to jump in with both feet and go from there. I've had to adapt some nomenclature, like the usage of "Alpha," "beta," etc., but all in all most Omegaverse fics follow the already long established pattern of, "It's humans, but with wolf social patterns (for given values of the understanding of exactly what those even are) and some werewolf-like traits using fantasy/sci-fi mcguffin logic here" that's been around for ages.
The specific features of an A/B/O fic are the application of the labels, the emphasis on the sex-characteristics of the Alpha females and omega males as they differ from the human norm (specifically the genital configuration), and the heavy emphasis on scent. Some (like mine, and certainly not all) fics will also include a pack social structure that's been modified to fit the more modern studies of wolves and the specific needs of their presentation of the in-universe world, but most just go with whatever understanding of Omegaverse-specific social structure that's been established for fiction.
It's largely a vocab issue. I have a sidebar on this blog post here about this very thing, but if you want me to discuss it in more detail I certainly can.

Credit given when hovering over "Source" on the cover image I do this whenever I use a fan-created image if I can find attribution, and in the last couple years I've specifically started hunting down pics that were specifically labelled as "share-alike" of some variety to respect artist wishes. Again, presuming the perfect pic has attribution to be found, some pics are posted to image-dump websites like a -chan or -booru without proper attribution and the author's original image links are just gone from the Internet or on pages hidden from search engines by paywalls so I can't find the source.

I will always respect artist wishes, and if it's an area of possible concern (like this one), I'll make appropriate and reasonable modifications (even I have limits in this regard), and in this case a quick edit of the story description is certainly well within "appropriate and reasonable."

Once I got over my initial "That's not how wolves work" pedantry and saw that Omegaverse was kinda it's own thing I enjoyed it a lot more. It spends a lot of time introducing the whole alpha, beta, omega thing. But that was kinda necessary since I had no idea about the whole thing, now the story can actually take off without introducing basic world concepts. Which might be why the rating is so skewed, 12k words in and all that's been done is mostly introduction. Peeps don't have patience to let a story develop slowly, once people realize this is only the beginning of a longer story I think the ratio of upvotes to down will head more positive.
Also, I adore Sunset as Celestia's kid headcanon. Why the show didn't just lead with that I'll never know, it just works so well with their relationship.

as for my pedantic nerd brain bit, it was mainly just me wanting to bring up a bit of science trivia, even though i knew it had nothing to do with the story because science is fun when done right. so i added the "I'd be an ass, wait, shit." bit to try and also get a laugh. these are fiction stories after all the don't need to be accurate to reality's.
Anyway, i'll be waiting on an update, the starts been a great read so far.

Nah, every time I post a fic that has the "sex" tag, I get a slew of downvotes before there's even been a chance for it to be read by a single person, meanwhile the ones I post that don't have the "sex" tag don't receive that treatment. Not saying I don't get downvoted for being too wordy (Music Box Blues proved that's a thing), but the pattern of downvotes is different, which points to some sort of Purity-culture-stalkers that are trying to drive any mention of sex out of the fandom. That I've made the Feature Box three times with sexual-themes-heavy fics is evidence of just how much of a minority these people are, but it's still frustrating.
I KNOW, RIGHT!?!?! I'm so glad I'm not the only one! (Just once, they could have had Sunset slip and say, "Mom." Bonus points for it being at the end of an episode and having the only pony reacting being Twilight being all, "...wait, WHAT?!" and then flip to black, roll credits.

As far as Fluttershy goes, I don't know why more people don't see her as a soft Domme, especially given all her traits that point straight at that archetype. Does (canon, pony)Fluttershy have more anxieties than a whole flock of submissive brats with a praise kink? Absolutely. Is (canon,human)Fluttershy a bag of insecurities and sass that most people miss because she's so reserved? Undoubtedly.
