Googling the name of the story with fimfic brings up several results for the original, now-deleted story and said story was posted by an account using the same name as this one.
One of the results is also a youtube reading of the story posted in March that lists the name of the author being the same name as this account.

Hey, I am an owner/mod on one of TAD's patreon Discord severs for a current game that he is working on. It revolves around personal things that went on in TAD's life that isn't my right to explain. But I can swear on my life this is him and he is back to reupload his old, deleted works.
Well, this was not what I was expecting, but I guess I should've seen it coming. Not really sure how to respond in general, as I am the original author of this story: A Different Kind of Distortion. Yes, I deleted my account, as I mentioned in the author's note. That also has the effect of losing all your stories permanently. When I did this I was not in a right state of mind and have since then regretted the action. Hence why I have uploaded this story again.
However, the kind of commentary I've received thus far really does not help me in making me very comfortable in uploading my other stories. I've been through a lot these past months, to put it lightly, and I was hoping this would give me some positive energy going forwards in the future. Right now, it's only doing the opposite for me, which is really unfortunate.
I might just revoke this story and permanently pull back from the MLP-fanbase as a result to avoid further confusion and accusations. I apologize in advance to everybody if this will be the case.

I’ll have to agree with Zamairiac, it might help if you put some sort of message that these are your official works and not someone else re-uploading it. But on that note, it’s delightful to have you back! I’m sorry for whatever personal issues may have been plaguing you. I hope you’re doing well! I adored a lot of your stories and there were some I didn’t get to read yet, and I was admittedly disheartened when your stuff was deleted. I know my lone words might mean nothing but I implore you to not give up, you were absolutely missed and I’d eagerly look forward to any new writing endeavors if you’re wanting to put out new stories, or I’ll also be content if you’re just uploading your old stuff.

I'm going to echo Zamairiac and Jaythedude42. A note about the re-upload in the description itself rather than an author note, which can be easily missed if somebody does not read any of the chapters for lack of willingness to give views to potentially stolen work, would have eliminated a lot of confusion.
That being said, I'm happy to see you back and I'm thrilled to give this story another read-through. I do apologize for my behavior and I really hope that our skepticism doesn't drive you away from the community again. :c

Please don't be mad at everyone, it's just a simple misunderstanding. If I was in your position I would be flattered that people fondly remember my story and would try to defend it from being stolen. Unfortunately, that has caused some problems because it's not actually being stolen, but it's the thought that counts.

Don't let what people like DivinePanzer say get you down. That guy's a jackass and most of the time he just whines about how much he doesn't like stories just because he never wrote anything worth reading. If you're trying to reupload your old work, go ahead. It probably would have helped the story's reception to have that authors note in there and have a very big and bold note in the description, but it should be fine now. Just keep doing what you're doing man. Don't let random asshats on a pony fanfiction website get you down.

They're reaction is expected as suspected foul play is at works and no indications were given that this was a reupload unless someone checked the chapter itself, though most people tend not to. In all honesty I wondered about if you were the real author until i read the first chapter.

Glad to see you back, i really enjoyed this and The Proposal Proposition, i am sure you've read everyone elses same comments but having it in the description of the story rather than in authors notes might be a good idea as its immediately in front of people, Hope all is well with you.
I happen to be one of the members who archive these stories and I can tell you that this stories original Author is "ThatAverageDude" My copy is archived from 6/4/18, 11:47 PM. I have no reason to doubt this is the original Author.
I also have "Forging a bond" by ThatAverageDude archived on 6/5/18, 3:23 AM. My copy is not listed as complete. Unless its a short story, I may only have a few chapters of it.
My point is that yes, these stories are originally by ThatAverageDude.

Thanks for all the positive words of encouragement, people! I have taken your suggestion at heart and put a disclaimer in the description of the story in bold that can't be missed. I was under the assumption that using my original name and an author's note in the first chapter would be enough proof that I was the original author of this work to begin with.
I hope this clears up any confusion. I shall do the same to my other stories when I upload them again.
