Hmm, so Cinch will perhaps investigate the portal itself? That would lead her straight to Twilight's castle. Which itself could spell rather dangerous consequences of various kinds, given the amount of magical stuff in there, and of course Twilight herself, a royal Princess.

Ahh, poor Cinch. For all her talk about power and influence, she doesn't realize she just alienated one of the most politically powerful beings on the other side of the portal. That door just slammed shut, both literally and figuratively.
I wish we could've had a scene like this in the movie.

It wasn't simply just that. Abacus insulted her friends, blackmailed and manipulated her counterpart and put two worlds in danger due to her obsession with her legacy as well. Twilight tried to reason with her, but she refused any chance at redemption.
The fact that she was human Sombra's daughter was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I mean, all they would have to do is keep the portal closed and let the madwoman rave and rant about a broken plint. She'd make a fool out of herself and interest in and rumours about a supposed portal would be shelved as an hoax. Win-win.
Also someone please point out to her face that Cinch made an enemy out of the government on the other side of the portal. For a social hawk like that, that would be the ultimate humiliation.
I wish we'd see this in the series: a non-magical human making comments on the world of Equestria.
