Headcanon interpretation of Tia and Woona is that they were very happy as fillies, but something nudged Luna to the dark side. I wanted to explore the idea that the loss of their mother could have hurt Luna disproportionately more as she was younger and also if she was closer to her mother.

I do like it, and it goes along with a similar idea of my own, that being that sleeping through Luna's beautiful night is, by itself, not enough of a trigger for Nightmare Moon. If you add Nightmare Rarity's story from the comics the Nightmare part really begins to look like deep depression does in our world, so the question becomes "what started Luna's depression"?

I believe we're both going down the same track here. I don't see anything in their early years as fillies that sowed the seeds for this rift, so it must have been triggered later. In this story I have tried to show the specially deep bond between parent and youngest child, and how if it is brought to an end prematurely, such as by the death of the parent, the child does not necessary have the mental faculty to comprehend that they're not being deserted.
I think Luna is an amazing character with so much of her personality to be explored.
